Does your Charge run very hot when searching for service?

Well this is probably coupled with the 'no connectivity' issue to some degree, but when my phone is searching for service, the phone gets very hot. I've noticed this before when during periods of signal searching  it seems like the pocket I'm carrying the phone in is getting very hot. I never really made the association until today when I was holding the phone and saw it had no connectivity when I pulled it from my warm pocket and the phone continued to heat up as I held it and it searched for data. It began to cool as it eventually got the data back. I also think the battery life drops precipitously during these periods.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Redfish542,

I understand you have concerns with your Samsung Droid Charge getting hot.  Overheating is usually related to a battery issue.  Normal battery expectations include warm to the touch while in use, and warm to the touch while charging.  However, excessive heat or too hot to touch, swelling or rupture of the battery or phone require attention.

If your overheating issue falls into the excessive heat category, and your battery hasn't been exposed to moisture or damage, and is within the manufacturers warranty it may need to be replaced.

Let me know if this answers your questions and concerns!

My Charge becomes very hot after I have used it for a prolonged period of time.  When I am using an app, cruising the internet or just messing with the phone, it becomes very hot after a long period of time.

Anthony, thanks. I wouldn't say it's too hot to touch when it does heat up, but it does seem warmer than I would imagine a phone to be.  As I've mentioned, it's not even so much during charging, but more when it seems to be having trouble getting data from the network.  Fortunately I've noticed less of this recently in my area, so I'm not sure if thre was something done in my area or not.

I'll keep watching to see if the issue recurs.

Hey I'm having the same issue with my phone, however, it heats up randomly, while being charged and while using apps. The phone does not get melting hot, rather, too hot for comfort. The other day it actually paused the charging process and stated " charging has been paused because the divice is either too hot or too cold". Neither Verizon nor Samsung actually know what this message means nor the temperature setting on the phone that will trigger this response. Verizon says it's normal for some heat but a safety issue if it's too hot. Samsung has no clue even though it's their product. I've tried replacing batteries and chargers but the problem persists. Hopefully it won't have a meltdown to the point it causes physical harm or property damage.

I noticed my Charge got really hot when charging in the car. When I surf this morning while listening to music, it got hot too. Hopefully it will not cause any problem, especially with battery life.

I notice the heat when on the car charger as well. Mine also heats up under heavy use, but that seems to make sense since the processor is working hard and the screen is on. I would equate it to a computer when the fan kicks on or increases rpm during a heavy load.
