Is there some way to remotely turn on the gps ? If my new phone is stolen it would require the GPS to be on to find it, and I am sure that is the first thing a thief would turn off! Please reply, Thanks

There's an app called "Where's my Droid?" I'm pretty sure it allows GPS to be activated when you try to find your phone through another person's phone. You could check it out.

I think the app "Where's my Droid" only turns your phone off silent mode, (assuming it is on silent mode) and starts it ringing so you can find it.

Download the free app called GPS Tracker. With that you can track your phone online in real time. I think that is the closest to what you are wanting.
Where's My Droid App---If you have this downloaded & lost your phone & it is on silent, you can text your phone from another device with the word that you put in the settings and the phone will start ringing.

There's a lowjack type service you can get from the app market that would allow you to remotely turn on the GPS to locate your phone if its lost or stolen. I believe the name is Mobile Defense. If i'm not mistaken it does have a monthly fee.
Oh and wavesecure is similar too.
