Any tips for the "Global" part?

I have a D2G that I would like to use on other networks.  I just spoke with "R" at Verizon.  He said basically just go buy another one and put it in, if you have a problem you'll have to talk with the other provider." 

Can I simply purchase another sim and replace my existing verizon sim? 

Then when I get back I simply replace the third party sim with my verizon sim?
