HI, I bought Android 2 Motorola on ebay. I'm living in Ireland. I know that phone has preinstaled sim card. Can I use this phone with my sim(number) from Ireland (vodafone) , is it possible ? In other case this phone is useless for me...

Was this the Droid 2 Global? Was the phone already unlocked by the seller?

If no to either of those questions, the phone might as well be a paperweight to you. Sorry.

Take off the battery cover and look for the SIM card slot. The pre-installed SIM will be Vodafone card. Under the battery it should say what model of phone it is.

Check with the seller on the unlock status. IMHO which should have been done before the purchase was completed.

Thank you all for your comments. They are greatly appreciated.

@bycur,

Do you currently have an account with Verizon Wireless? If so, is the Droid 2 Global activated on your line?

If you do have an account with us and the Droid 2 Global is currently activated on your account please send us a private message with your name and  mobile number so we can further assist you.

Thanks

Preinstalled is probably Verizon-speak, it just means that the phone comes with a SIM card already in the SIM slot, and the SIM card can be removed just as in any other GSM phone.   As others have said, remove the back and look under the battery for model number.   If it is a Global, there will be a SIM card slot (probably with a Vodafone SIM) next to the SD card.

If it is a global, remove any SIM card in the slot, and try your SIM card.   If you get a Subsidy Code challenge, then the phone was not unlocked and that is a big problem.

You can contact the seller and ask them to get the code from Verizon, but to do that the phone would have to be marked as active on their line, which it probably isn't.    The other approach is to try to get the code from an unlocking site on the web.   This is often going to fail, as Verizon seems to have changed the codes so the standard databases don't have the right info.  However, some people have been lucky with this method.  Make sure you use one that gives money back if it is unsuccessful.
