Has anyone had there battery drain in the matter of hours after updating to 2.2? My wifes phone, her battery is already dead and her update was done about 2 hrs ago. It's not the facebook app because when she did her update she lost all of her apps so i know its none of those things.

any ideas?

A lot of folks have been reporting this problem. I did notice this as well after I updated my phone. Seems like battery life lost about an extra 2-3 hours. My guess is that the Android OS is using a lot more processing power to keep the phone stable, but it seems to be mostly from the phone being on standby (go to Settings>About Phone>Battery Use to see what is using your battery), which is weird in my opinion. I have a feeling that there might be another patch in our future.

My battery is draining faster since the  update as well and I have monitored all my open apps to see if that could be the issue but it appears that is not the cause....what is going on?

My battery life hasn't decreased one bit.

I'll know better in a day or two but it feels like it may have even improved a little.

I started at 100% at 7AM this morning, and now at almost 10PM it's still at 70% and I've been playing with it most of the day.

I agree. My battery life has gone down maybe 50% to the point where the phone beeps in the middle of the night because the battery dropped below 15%. And, to the person who suggested dumping apps, I've got about 100 of them, where do I start? lol. I'd rather have a new phone and start from scratch.

My wife got the Froyo update this morning around 8am. She says she hasn't really used her phone much today and it is already down to like 15% battery. On most other days with similar usage, it would still be up around 50%. So, while not a scientific test, it would appear the 2.2 update was negative on battery life for my wife's droid.

My original froze on the "M" logo after the 2.2 update. Got a replacement 2 days later that did not come with a battery. I put my battery in and immediately after starting the phone, got a message to update that phone to 2.2. Did the update, and even with my phone remaining on the charger for hours on end, the battery will not charge past a maximum of 30%. Upon removing the phone from the charger, it immediately drops to 5%. And this is running bare bones, before I reinstalled any of my apps!

So I can't figure out if the replacement handset they sent was defective in the first place (battery sensors went bad?), or if it is 2.2. Either way, a nice customer service rep at the store told me to leave it at 2.1 until the problems are resolved. Will be getting my 2nd replacement as of today and I'm leaving that at 2.1.

The Froyo update is a decent bit faster than the old ROM. I have the same issue, but it wasn't a significant drain. I would guess that I lost an hour or two is all. The faster the phone runs, the more battery life suffers.

just got my update last night finally.  and a huge part of the reason your battery drains is because it messed up all your settings.  all the apps and stuff that you had shut down previously are now always open.  you have to go to each of them and fix that problem.  i am having a pain in the butt time trying to make my email not receive email automatically.  i change the settings to not receive at all, and it just goes and makes it receive anyways.  trying to make sure every thing is not always open again is a PAIN!  there are obviously some bugs still.

I have provided some steps to help with the battery life on the Droid.

1. It may take several charging cycles for the battery to reach optimum performance.

2. The battery charger shipped with this device is a high rate charger specifically designed for the Motorola Droid.

3. The Power Control Widget displays a quick snapshot of some of the tools that can be optimized to conserve your battery. The widget provides information on Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Location (GPS), Synchronization, and Display. To add the Widget, from the home screen, touch Menu => Add => Widgets => Power Control.

4. The Battery Use feature provides a real time view of what features or applications are using the highest percentage of battery. It also provides tips on modifying these features or applications, e.g. click on Display to change reduce brightness and/or screen timeout. To access Battery Use, from the home screen, touch Menu => Settings => About Phone = > Battery use.

5. Turn Wi-Fi and Bluetooth off when not in use.

6. If using Exchange Active Sync email, change settings to download email less frequently. Press Menu => Account Settings =>Email check frequency.

7. Close any third party applications running in the background that are not needed.

Hope this helps.

Is there a way to stop your phone from shutting off when it says there is 5% of battery life left? I have another app that tells me I have 20% battery life left, but the standard battery reading says 5% and then shuts the phone off after like 5 minutes. I think there is more time left in the battery but I can't figure out a way to stop that from shutting down.

It's more of a safety feature so I doubt it.

In the same boat.  Battery dead in 4 hours with NO CALLS made.  Just set-up exchange again, sent a couple emails. Won't charge off the PC now either - not enough juice to keep up with the drain I guess.  WTF.  Exchange calendar gone too (that was actually the first sign of problems).

Any way to fall back to 2.1 until these issues are resolved?

I believe the corporate calendar shows up inside the normal calendar app.  If it's not showing, open the default calendar app, hit the menu button, choose more and then Calendars. As for battery drain, have you checked under About Phone, Battery Use like the post above suggests?

Thanks for the ideas.  I had to pull the battery so all that info is now gone - will do once I can get it fully charged again.  The thing is hot to the touch, and again nothing gong except MAYBE it is trying to set up the calendar.  Had some issues like this with 2.1 where it literally took a day to redisplay my calendar when I need to rebuild it.  I did check and "optimize" just about everything I could based on prior posts and knowledge of optimization techniques.

Again, the thing went from 100% to 5% in less than 4 hours with hardy any use - can't imagine that would all be due to settings changing based on the update.

Everyone say don't use a task killer too - I uninstalled it just in case that was causing the exchange problems - is it believe 2.2. has better management capabilities and this isn't needed, or do I look for one developed specifically for 2.2?

So it happened again - another 4 hrs and another drained battery.  All the CPU is going to email but I ave the same settings as I did on 2.1.  I am HOPING it's just working really, really hard to pull down all my calendar entries from the exchange server, since I still down have the calendar up and running.

The update changed several setting on my phone as well.  As a long time Linux user, I have found that a reboot is advisable after a few hours to let the device resync when a lot of program updates are done.  My battery life is slightly better with 2.2.  Maybe an extra hour or two before charging is needed.  Most actions are faster, particularly the web applications.  I have had the network drop several times since the upgrade on the 14th and the signal strength in bars does not relate to the actual signal strength in any way that I can see.

I found that Skype was burning up the battery and driving up the percentage of CPU that was being consumed by the OS. I uninstalled the application and my power consumption immediately went down. My new experience is that I have 70% battery after 6 hours of idle (no calls). Previously, with Skype installed, but not logged on, the battery would have been at 40% in 4 hours.
