I purchased a Droid Charge in August. I lost data connection repeatedly. Called support repeatedly. Did all the remove battery, restore to factory reset, toggle in an out airplane mode suggested activities--dozens of times a day. After hours on the phone to Verizon, they sent a second phone. Same problem. Data connection generally lasted only about 10 minutes. I restarted the phone dozens of times a day to restore data connection. Again, I spent hours on the phone, reset the phone to factory settings and the problem persisted. The problems didn't seem to be with transition from 3G to 4G. If there was a pattern to the loss of connection, it was that I lost connection anytime I tried to receive a large data packet. I always lost connections on downloads and videos, so gave up trying. Finally, Verizon agreed to allow me to switch to a new phone and sent a Droid Bionic, which worked smoothly from the day I got it. It probably has lost data connection once a week, versus the dozens of times a day with the Charge. The Charge was also slow to connect to GPS (often 2-3 minutes.) The Bionic connects almost immediately. There is definitely something wrong with the Charge!
