Droid Charge says 'unauthorized battery' & won't charge

My phone still has it's original Samsung battery but once in a while it will stop taking a charge.  For no apparent reason, it gives the message 'unauthorized battery' & won't take a charge.  I've tried different chargers, pulling the battery with the phone on and with it off.  It always seems to do this when I need the phone the most - probably just a coincidence, but still...  It eventually will take a charge without any specific action on my part.  Anyone else having this problem?

Try this.  Turn your phone OFF like you would do if you were rebooting it.  Then plug the charger into the phone and leave your phone off.  Let it charge with the phone off.  This is best done at over night while you sleep.

If this works you will see a gray colored battery on your screen that looks like a flashlight battery  within a minute or two (be patient).  The screen will go dark in another minute or two.  Time to go to bed and let it charge.

When it's fully charged you'll see the same battery but it will be green colored with 100 showing if it is 100% charged; otherwise, the green battery shows without the 100 showing.

The green colored battery will only be on the screen a minute or two so if you wonder if you missed it just QUICKLY press the on/off button and it will appear again for a minute or two.

PS, you also might search this forum using the word BUMP or the words "BUMP CHARGING"  for a post I wrote on this subject.

I believe most problems are result of software updates designed to get consumers to upgrade their phones.  It's called built-in obsolence and the phone companies should be sued and reported to FTC!!!!
