Droid Globalemail and Calling in the UK

I arrived in the UK this past weekend for work.  I called Verizon in advance of my trip to set my phone up so I could use it as normal while I'm here.  I was told I could apply the Globalemail plan to my account and it everything would work when I got here.

I double checked that I would have to change any settings, or set up international roaming, or anything to get it working.  I was assured that no action on my part was required; I could just go to the UK, pay the extra $65 for the month, and everything would work as it does in the US.

Since I have been here I have had no cell service and no data connectivity.  I have contacted customer service via email (because I can't call) twice and have received no response.  I tried activating data roaming, and it had no effect.

Can anyone let me know if there's anything I need to do to get the service working.  Or, was I misinformed about my phone being able to work while I'm here?  If it makes any difference, I am in Derby, UK.

Thanks very much for any help anyone might have, and please let me know if any more information would help to resolve this.

The Droid isn't a world phone since it doesn't have a GSM radio in addition to the standard verizon CDMA one.  While there are a few places outside of the us that use a CDMA network, the majority are GSM and the Droid won't run on those.. http://b2b.vzw.com/international/technology/cdma.html is a list of countries that offer CDMA networks but it doesn't look like the UK is on it so pretty much the only way to use the droid will be over wifi.

Wow, I'm really surprised they'd offer me the service either aware of the fact that it wouldn't work here, or wihout checking, if they didn't know.

Thanks for your help.  What a disappointment though!
