I can send pictures via text message but can't receive them. People tell me they are sending me pics but I never receive them. Any idea why? Does this warrant a call to tech support or is this some setting I need to change?

There may be a setting that did not get correctly set when the phone was activated.
Have you tried *228 Option 1?
Got off the phone with Verizon. I'm a new account so it takes 72 hours for the capability of receiving pictures to crossover. So, I have another day or so to see if I can get pics. Hope this resolves it.

Oh yes it does take a certain amount of hours to get everything set up.So if it does not resolve by itself then call back.
