I posted in before about the Motorola media dock, which does not work for my phone due to the case I have around it. So I was doing a little research and I read that people have made their own docks. One of them mentioned a magnet to get the phone in to the Media screen. Is there any truth behind that? Does anyone know?

I made my own dock using a generic expandable mount you can buy at any truck stop, Walmart or elsewhere. I used a 10 cent disc magnet glued to the proper position so it is near the Droid's internal one. Once in the mount, the phone automatically goes into Car Mode ( in horizontal ) and stays in that mode until you remove it. You can use the DIY mount with any case, unlike the one sold by Verizon that forces you to remove it and potentially damage both the case and phone. I took a photo of my creation that I wanted to include here, but don't have a website and have no idea how to attach it otherwise. But if you spend about 15 bucks for the mount and 10 cents for the magnet, plus a little glue, you'll have a nice economical cradle.

An interesting thing about this...the polarity of the magnet dictates which mode the phone goes into. One polarity (+ or -) and it puts it into car mode, but flip the magnet around and it puts it in Multimedia mode.
