After Update to Froyo my contacts went from (LastName, FirstName) to (FirstName, LastName) and can not get back to original sort order and VERIZON DOES NOT SEEM TO CARE. Anyone have this same problem or have a work around?

My contacts have always been first name, last name, even when I had 2.1. Are you sure that it's not Google and not 2.2 or the phone?

Yes, They were sorted this way, then 2.2 came and it changed.

It seams to me my contacts were always sorted by first name. I prefer to sort by last name so I always put the last name in the first name box and the first name in the last name box. Now my contacts are sorted by last name.
Of course if you already have 300+ contacts it would be a royal pain to make the changes now. I started when I only had about 15 contacts.
Good luck whatever you do,

We apologize but there is not a work around for this issue, beyond changing the names around in the contacts.

Apologizing is nice, but how about a commitment to fix the problem? Contacts is one of the primary reasons why people buy smart phones, this should be a priority.
And it worked in 2.1, so CLEARLY it's possible. Please make a commitment to fix this in a future update. Software upgrades should not remove important features.

I don't think it is a Verizon thing since it happened with Froyo. So more of a Google thing.
May not be the best answer. But, Better contacts app claims it will sort contacts by last name. Costs $2.63, though.

IndMind,
It never worked w/ native (2.1) on the X itself, there was a work around that used to work thru gmail prior to (2.2).
Good luck,

I think you need to be lobbying to Google. They designed the operating system which decides how contacts are sorted and whether or not you have the option to change it.
Good luck to you, because I too like my contacts sorted by last name. I worked around it by inputting the last name in the first name box and vice-versa. Of course I did this when I first got the phone. I f you have hundreds of contacts in your phone now, well..... that's a bummer. I think your only option is to get Google to come out with a Android OS update.

May not be a work-around for you but I ended up getting a copy of Touchdown through Motorola - and have my contacts listed in Last Name, First Name order in that app.
