Hi everyone,
Has anyone tried the mobile hot spot that the Droid X has to offer?
I have been attempting to use it. My laptop connects to it just fine, however when trying to browse the internet I get the same webpage from Verizon saying to sign up for a mobile broadband connect. I'm not sure what this means. I already pay $29.99 for an unlimited data plan. Do I need to pay more to use the hot spot feature?
Let me know Thanks!!

yes. it's an additional $20/month. aircards run $60/month, so if they didn't charge for tethering/hot spot, then nobody would continue to use wireless or air cards. not to mention that it would kill their network if we all just started using our phones for internet access through pc's and laptops.

Ah, I guess that makes sense then. It's a bummer though. I'd like to get the most out of something I'm paying top dollar for. Oh well...I'll look into it for the future if it comes to the point that I need it.
Thanks!!!

yeah.....i figure at some point there will just be an "unlimited everything" type of plan. it would have to be a bit pricey, but i think it's prolly the direction we are headed. they'll have to increase the networks drastically though, if we are all going to be running a bunch of devices from one phone. they actually give the tethering feature to the palm pre users, but this was only to dump a boatload of palm pre's onto customers. they anticipated much more demand for the pre and were stuck with a ton of them. so they offered early upgrades, the pre for $29.99, and free tethering. it was about 4 months ago i think? i almost bit.....but am very glad i held out for an incredible. now i just have figure out how i'm gonna get my hands on an X....lol

Haha, well sounds like the pre must've been a crappy phone if they were just trying to dump them on customers for such a low price plus tethering.
Anyway, I'm glad the X has the hot spot option because it really opens up doors should I want to get the plan for it.
Only thing I'm upset about the X is the volume on it. It doesn't ring nearly as loud as my Blackberry did. It'll have to do though

On the DroidX I'm figuring ok you can activate the 3G Hotspot and yes you will see it on your PC wireless network scan - it will even let you browse using IE or Firefox - BUT up pops Verizons page - to this point no fees are incurred - now once you subscribe you can browse anywhere for the $20.00 a month with 5GB cap. Until you do subscibe sure you've got wireless but not a fat lot you can do with it. Is that it ?
