Like most of you I had to wait about a week or two to receive my Droid X. In that sort amount of time I learned that the Droid X:
- Has screen issues
- Drops calls
- Lags
- Never stays on for 5 min
- Touchscreen is unresponsive
- Has no battery life
- Deletes everything
- Can take pictures better than a 5 year old phone
- A wannabe iPhone 4
- Isn't an iPhone 4
- An iPhone clone
- The worst phone ever
- Really a brick disguised as a phone
I learned all of this just by looking at various post about the phone. So when I got my phone I was paranoid out of my mind. From when I opened my box I felt something was wrong with it, from the straight from the warehouse smell to the length of the time it took to run its first boot. I was sure I had a defective phone and was ready to march down to the nearest Verizon store and give them a piece of my mind. I even thought my phone was used. 5 min with playing with the phone the touchscreen froze up. The App drawer skipped a frame when going through it. I had 2 stuck pixels on when I brought up the camera. I only had 3 WiFi bars. 2 hours later at work I noticed my 3G signal turned into a 1x signal and a phone call I made wasn't so clear. The alarm I set failed to wake me up. My pictures were coming out the way I wanted. But I not been a rational person I probably would've raged.
The unresponsive touchscreen, thinking back I think it was an error on my part, regardless a simple battery pull solved it. The App drawer skip could've been caused by anything, probably me racing through everything when the phone was running through some of its paces and it was hardly noticeable compared to lag on my old iPhone. 2 days after I got my phone and I can't find those two stuck pixels, they only showed when I pulled up the camera anyway. My WiFI was actually slow, its just that the router is behind a couple of walls, a microwave, and several other factors that could cause the signal to deteriorate slightly. I actually only experienced the 3g anomaly within one spot at work, everywhere else the signal was far stronger than what I had with ATT. The call that didn't sound so solid was me talking to someone that had MetroPCS, never had too much luck with their phones in my area. The alarm, I set it wrong, increasing volume isn't loud enough. The pictures, I was taking them in low light and didn't know how to use the auto focus yet. I've ran benchmark after benchmark, test after test, and so far there is nothing wrong with my phone, the battery can even survive the brunt of my constant fiddling with the homescreen.
Point is, before you go on the warpath with your new Droid X, take a second to see if you have a defective device or not. From what I've read, VZW is being pretty liberal with replacing phones. Most of the time you hear about CS nightmares with clearly defective products. Take every positive and negative feedback you see with a grain of salt less you will set unrealistic expectations about the device before its even in your hands. Take the time to learn the in and outs of the phone before you call up CS complaining about this or that when nothing is actually wrong with the phone. There are obviously some bad devices that feel through the cracks, but before you assume yours is one, relax and properly troubleshoot the device before you curse something you just spent $200+ on.
