Droid X Slowing Down

I've had my Droid X for 4 months now and I've recently noticed that it works much slower then it used to. It is slower in every aspect of its functionality. When I tap an icon to say open my Messaging accounts, it does nothing for a short time and then the screen will often go a light black color before it evetually opens up my Messaging accounts list. I often have to power it off and then power it back up to get it to temporarily work faster.
It is just like an older computer with too little RAM trying to open up an app that is loading too much data at once so it has to load a little, do some work, and then load a little more until it finally starts the app. On a computer you can sometimes add RAM and it will speed back up, but what can you do with the DROID X? I've tried making sure everything is turned off (games, WIFI, GPS, etc) except for email and voice access, but this doesn't help.
Has anyone else experienced this problem with their Droid X? Is there something I can do to keep this from happening?
Thanks,
Ron

It really sounds like you simply have an APP that is sucking up the CPU. There are several ways to trouble-shoot (and remove/correct) the culprit. Are you running any TASK KILLERS? (I do not - my choice ... but they can introduce more issues than they solve if not properly configured.)
- I installed the APP called SYSTEM PANEL ... The free version doesn't not allow you to turn on the Monitor to LOG what might be consuming CPU over a period of time (e.g., a day, 8 hours, 2 hours, etc.) Frankly, I think it's worth paying for it. There are likely other choices of APPS to check this situation.
- If the problem is reproduceable, you could boot up in SAFE MODE just to eliminate 3rd party APPS that may have introduced the issue. If you want to do that, just ask and we'll tell you the steps to get into that mode.

Thanks for recommendations. I checked the cache hogs and found an old game that my son loaded on the phone taking up a lot of cache so I deleted it. I don't presently use a Task Killer and will look into getting System Panel to see if that directs me to the culprit here. Hopefully these steps will help speed my Droid up.
Thanks, Ron

I took your suggestion and checked the cache hogs. There was one old game that used a lot so I deleted it. After a reboot it does seem to be working a little better. I will monitor over the coming days and see if that solved my problem. Thanks.

i'm the messenger sport & really don't care about your eris/at&t.
at&t sucks with poor g4 coverage & will die a slow death with ipod coming to verizon, even without talk/internet @ same time.

What the heck is your issue??? The poster offered their opinion on how things work for them. Honestly, I could not say when I last shut my phone off.... Sounds like an rogue app.
I use System Panel lite, You can see if your CPU usage is constantly high, then the total CPU time for apps that are running

gerio:
then tell me how the post i replied to with my 454p comment drew the next comment @ 531p about a phone on another system that didn't require rebooting/worked fine.
don't rag on me when the comment at 531p was out of line.

Since Gerio has not got on the board yet today, I will explain why YOUR post was out of line, the poster is NOT on ATT. They are on VZW. An Eris will not work on ATT.
Trustmarket means they will be EVENTUALLY be switched to the ATT network.

i googled and eris came up an at&t phone.
still apples and oranges.
the fact that the other phone didn't need to be rebooted has no relevance to what i posted as a recommendation from verizon cs to reboot the x if you use it a lot and the comment after mine stating the eris didn't need to be rebooted was out of line.

Oh boy would I like to see your search results! The HTC DROID Eris was the next Android phone after the DROID by Motorola was released, both were offered by Verizon long before the Droid X was released. It finally reached it end of life with it running Android 2.1 that the Droid X started out with. While there are differences in the UI they are both Android phones with the DROID branding that Verizon decided to put their marketing money into. You talk of comparing apples to oranges, but it is really not that different between android phones. The Droid Eris and Droid X are more like comparing a Golden Delicious to a Braeburn Apple. They may look different on the outside, but they still are excellent pie apples. The apples to oranges comparasion more directly applys to if someone were to compare Blackberry vs Iphone, Android vs Iphone, or Blackberry vs Android.
I am sure VZ reps recommended rebooting the Eris daily too at some point, but I and owners of other android phones don't see the need if you are not getting errors or force close notices. I will reboot when I have reason to or if my phone gives me a reason to do so. I can't even remember the last time I had to pull my battery for any reason.
For the record I went a total Up Time of 717:22:30. That is 4 weeks, 1 day, 21 hours, 22 minute, 30 seconds before choosing to reboot my phone. And Gerio, should you read this post, this includes the time I had mentioned in another post about having not rebooted my phone for awhile.

We will never agree. And like we all believe what the CSR's state. They also want ATK's on the Droids when Froyo killed the purpose of them.
I will still contend ATT does not have an Eris. So if you could share your info I would greatly appreciate it.

My apologies for at&t but your experience with the eris has no relevance on the x forum.

I splashed a couple of drops of water on my display this morning (no screen protector) and wiped it off right away.
The touch commands have been screwy all day.
What is it about moisture and these phones? Really bizarre.

do you even have a droid x? "Droid Eris: vintage Nov 2009, still going, and I still find new reasons to enjoy it."
just figured out where my thoughts about at&t came from, not eris but the aria your expecting, which is at&t, check it out.
it was logical for me to think the eris was at&t and you were upgrading, even though i now know eris is verizon..

The thing is I don't want an HTC Aria. I was forced to pick a phone out of the phones "they" allowed me to pick from. Those choices were even slimmer than what a person will find on their website. The goal was to pick a phone that I could tolerate while I deal with the mess the Verizon/Alltel merger created and the FCC's requirements for it and not have any out-of-pocket costs. I am quite aware of what the Aria can or cannot do. The fact that is as similar to the Droid Eris as I could get is the reason I choose it over the others. I have less faith in the "so to be new" AT&T network they are building that I am not too worried about the phone. I just want the thing in my hands so I find out what the network will be like.
