The updates is ready to download and worth a look, I thought I would update everyone on the status of the recent update 2.3.340.MB810 for Droid X, I couldnt wait for anyones report of the performance fixes, so I took the plung and so far there is a number of noticable diifrances, restarts are extremely faster, web browsing hasnt lagged and responce time over all appears to doing well..
Of course this is a quick look into the software... Hope to hear more positive feedback soon.. If you are wanting to install the update, goto Settings > About Phone > System Updates..... Good Luck.

Once again a customer being misinformed, if it was only for the Droid no one would be getting the download and mine and many other have update installed and rolling, so I wouldn't listen to that answer.

Oh, I'll take the plunge, alright. I had intended to get up around midnight and update. But I guess I was too tired...
And right now, "check for update" isn't available. What a shock.
Hopefully, soon...

Update is downloading now. Let's see how it goes...
LET'S JUST SEE......
EDIT: Oh, good, I can still post this here. I just finished running the phone through all of the tricks that I usually do (websites, mail, widgets, Facebook, etc...) and everything is fine. My biggest issue after the 2.2 update was the battery manager force-closing when I tried to check use statistics. I just opened the usage statistics 5 times and it worked every time. I didn't try the player, since I have 3 iPods full of WAV files, I have no need to play music on the DX. Now I need to update my new DX...

Help a newbie understand what update this is. I assume this isn't gingerbread, correct? Is this the fix for 2.2? I am still running 2.1 and wanted to wait for a stable update so I have been delaying the 2.2 update. I have never checked for firmware updates on my phone before and wondered if I do check, will it list what version is available for update or does it start downloading right away? Is this also available for everyone right now?
Also, can I go from 2.1 to the latest update?

I'm running 2.1 update 1 on my droid x. Checked for system updates and it's telling me my phone is up to date. Any ideas?

I've checked several times this morning. Keeps coming up with " Your device is up to date!" "No update is necessary at this time.". I'm believing it might be a regional roll out.. Just not here yet. Waited this long whats another day or two

I would also venture to say that yes, you can get this update from 2.1 without getting 2.2 first. Or passing "Go". Or collecting $200 (okay, showing my age).

Thank you. One other question is when I have my phone search for an update does it show what update is available or does it just start downloading it automatically if one is available?

Looks like the update wasn't supposed to be pushed to EVERYONE yet...

This sucks because I got the update notification this morning and didn't update immediately. Now when I try to pull it manually, it tells me my device is up to date.

Just spoke to someone at Verizon and they said the update is just for the Droid and not the Droid X.

That is incorrect. Look at Verizon's own support page on the matter....
Assuming that this page doesn't get taken down, too.....
Yes, I got the update (on my Droid X, by the way). No, I'm not a member of the Motorola Feedback Team. And I'm not having any issues so far.
Don't you love it when a plan comes together.....

I have a Droid X, and I downloaded the upgrade this morning. Had to do it manually, it did not come to me automatically. So far, so good (hopefully it stays that way).

It has been temporarily pulled for the X. As stated in a earlier post topic. I, like a few others, downloaded the update. So it was out there. But, some people were having issues with the download (some not completing, some having 3g issues after the download, and a few other problems). It looks like we the few on this site who got it did not get those problems. But, until they figure out what is causing the problms to the few, they have pulled it for the X.
Also, I was not part of the Motorola test group who were originally supposed to test the release.

Phone #3's rebooting continued to get worse yesterday. It was also dropping its internet (wifi/3G) connection, like Phone #2. When this happened before, I would sometimes notice a reboot would follow.
This time, I waited. No reboot. Trying to open any app requiring internet connection, or trying to open a page in the browser resulted in an Error Message.
This occurs even though the wifi symbol is still present in the Notification bar. Clicking off the wifi widget and the 3G indicator does not come on. Only 1 bar registers.
Waited ten minutes. 3G comes back. Turned wifi widget back on. Internet connection restored.
The rebooting, meanwhile, reached about once every 1/2 hour. Called Verizon Tech Support. They had me do another reset.
I asked about the SD card. Should I format it? I was told "No, it couldn't be the problem".
After speaking with Verizon and resetting the phone, the rebooting got worse. It rebooted immediately after the reset, with no apps installed. I was just looking through my homescreens, moving and deleting widgets. It rebooted at least a dozen times more.
I reset the phone again and formatted the SD card and started with a completely wiped phone, first thing this morning.
Ran fine for a couple of hours. Now, it is back to both losing wifi/3G and rebooting. Called Verizon back. Phone #4 is on the way.
My original post explained that Phone #2 was running fine until the last update. The rebooting and wifi/3G issues only began after that. Phone #2 was rendered useless and replaced.
Phone #3 was rebooting this morning within 1/2 hour of the second reset. I HAD started installing apps, but folks, if I can't install apps in a $599 (retail) phone, I'm not owning it.
I know, some (including me) want to point at apps, but 90% of Droid X owners don't have these issues (that we know of) and I'm sure they all use apps. As I said, it rebooted yesterday, before I installed any apps.
This wifi/3G issue, which I didn't give enough notice to, could also be a clue.
Phone #4 will be it for me.

I'm gonna go ahead and bring this up, it's usually me opening my big mouth and hurting someone's feelings. DroidSX, I certainly mean no harm or disrespect.
But I gotta say, when one person has 3 phones that wind up doing the very same thing...Really, folks, what are the odds? I can't accept that. Of course, this is really easy for me to say when I have 2 Droids working perfectly. I bought the first one the day they came out, I've updated it twice, no problems. The second one, I bought it the first of November, updated it once, no problems. So I fully understand someone's frustrations with me sitting here all happy and writing this.
I can understand one phone going bad, then 2, well, okay. The 3rd phone would make me mighty curious at the circumstances. What that might be and the cause, I can't say. But I'd love to be a fly on the wall in you house looking over your shoulder at your phone habits.
Is there any possibility that there is an external cause for 3 bad Droid Xs in a row? Any at all?
Geri O
