I currently have a Samsung Rogue and am considering outright buying a Droid X at retail price and selling my Rogue. I have about 13 months left until I am eligible for an upgrade. My first question is if I pay full retail for the phone myself this should not trigger a contract extension, correct? Also, if I bought the Droid X then 13 months later I should still be eligible for my upgrade (after my 2 years) since I paid full price for the Droid X and I did not get any discounted pricing on it. Is this also correct?

You're correct on both counts. Buying a phone at full retail price never extends your contract - that is the reason it's more expensive because VZW is not subsidizing the phone to recoup its cost over a two year contract.
Yes, even after you pay full price for the X and activate it, your upgrade will still be there for you in 13 months.
Before you do that, you may be eligible for an early upgrade if yours is the primary line on share plan or single line, depending on your price plan. Ask Customer Service at *611 to check.

I would suggest going into Verizon tomorrow and asking this, only way to be certain, otherwise it's just hearsay. However, my friend got his contract extended in exchange for the lower price on the Incredible, but he was only a few months off so I don't know if they would for you.

good news.. my ne2 discount came in 7 months and they allowed me to do an early upgrade... Call Verizon, tell them you heard about the smartphone promotion going on, tell them you want to purchase one and ask them to see if they can push your upgrade earlier..
Good Luck, let us know what happens.
