What is the official word from Motorola / Verizon on the Wifi issues with the DX?
It is well documented that there is a major issue with the wifi connectivity:

http://phandroid.com/2010/07/21/droid-x-experiencing-wifi-connectivity-problems/

http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-x-tech-issues/97345-wifi-issues-resolved-using-tkip-only.html
One would think that verizon would encourage a wonderfully working wifi stack to take some load off of their network when people have access to wifi.
My 1 week old 2.2 X drops the wifi connection in the middle of a browsing/facebooking session sometimes within a minute of reconnecting my wifi by turning it off/on.
Runnin WRT54G v2 w/ WPA2 -> AES+TKIP

If possible, try different router.

My Netgear wndr3700 exhibited this problem until I enabled a Guest account with no encryption.
I will pull a wrt54g out of retirement and run it on a different channel to see if it will work with the DX in encrypted mode.

Turned off TKIP and left only WPA2 with AES in my WRT54Gv2 and both droid x's that my family owns now connect and stay connected without dropping.
So, for me at least having TKIP with WPA2 was the issue...
EDIT: that was a temporary fix but i still drop wifi constantly

my wrt54g, v2.04.4 will only connect with wep, anything else, tries to lock on but won't.
fwiw:
i've used wep for years for banking, internet purchases without any issues but only deal with https sites.

Good Afternoon felickz,
I understand connecting to wi-fi is a great option to save usage from your data plan. It sounds like you are running the latest software on the Droid X, which is: 4.5.621.MB810.Verizon.en.US.
Do you find the connection problems are happening everywhere a wi-fi signal is available? Have you tried multiple locations or is it specific to your home or work location with a specific router?
Once we gain additional information, we can review possible solutions.
Sincerely,
JonathanK_VZW

I've been having the same wifi connection problem for a week now on Droid X2, version 1.3.380.MB870.Verizon.en.US (no updates needed as of 4/08/12). Connections were working fine previously. I'm still able to connect to FiOs with my personal laptop, a work laptop, and a Sonos bridge. I've tried shutting down the phone, removing the battery, shutting down the work connection, shutting down Sonos, all to no avail. Have tried deleting the network connection from the phone and re-creating it entering the WEP password. Behavior is always the same -- it sees the network, says it is remembered, says "connecting" and after a few second, says "disconnected". Then it repeats the connecting/disconnected cycle.

after delting, when you select wi-fi does it see the old connection, may still be trying to connect to it.
i've never had any problems with my droid x, nor has my son's.
have you been using wep before the problem?.
i've said it before & i'll say it again. everything that does wi-fi in the house can connect wpa/etc except the phone, which will only connect with wep encryption, thru the linksys wrt 54g router, v 2.04.4.
& it could just be the router not working with the phone.

Dear Jonathan,
A few weeks ago I started experiencing the same problem, though nothing on my network had changed. I am able to connect wirelessly to my blu-ray player without any problems, but not to my phone. Verizon replaced my phone but I still have the identical difficulty.
I am particularly concerned because I intended to get the Note II, which I understand has similar issues. Hardly seems worthwhile to upgrade if I can't connect to wifi.
I am considering replacing my router to see if that makes any difference. First, though I will attempt to connect wirelessly from a different location. If that works, then clearly the issue is the router. If not, I will be at a loss.
I could, I suppose, try the WEP solution, though I am reluctant to use such an outdated standard. What's puzzling is that wifi on my phone has worked perfectly for two years. Then, suddenly....

Balzac.nyc & everyone with this issue: Let's try another route! Have you possibly tried changing the encryption method used with regards to the broadcast signal? If you have an "N" class router, try changing your broadcast type from B,G,N to just B & G. Also, please try changing your Channel from Auto or Ch. 6 to Ch. 1 or 11 and see if this helps.
Please keep us updated with the results Balzac.nyc, and everyone. Take good care, and Happy Holidays!

Tested wifi in another location and it disconnected there too. That satisified me that it was the phone and not my router. Considered what apps I had recently installed and tracked the problem to an app. In my case it was Juice for Roku. Uninstalling it and then deleting and re-entering my wifi network solved the problem. I had tried changing the channel from 11 to 6 and choosing, reluctantly, b and g. Neither worked. But the application of a little logic and method....

I'm experiencing the same issue as well. Whether at home, at McDonalds, or at my (mega) employer and their "Wi-Fi Everywhere" system, I keep losing connectivity. It just started happening within the last couple of weeks too. I thought perhap my phone was malfunctioning. I've pulled the battery numerous times, and to no avail. Right now, although I have a Wi-Fi antenna overhead in the ceiling, I'm getting hardly any signal strength. and I conect and disconnect countless times throughout the day. I was happy as a clam until this happened. This is truely awful....
