While I like the rubber hammer idea, I went into the store over the weekend. They played with it but could not get the stuck shutter to work.

Received a replacment "Like New" Droid X today. The clerk in the store said that I should be getting the X2. Guess he was mistaken.

Will switch over to the new'ish phone later today. It had better work without any issues as this is my 3rd phone in 8 Months.

Actually the mechanical shutter was one thing that always made me nervous about the device, now that I read this I wonder due the Droid X2 and the Bionic still using that type of camera system?

actually there is no mechanical shutter in the X. It is just a sound effect. turn it off, and you will not hear the click of a shutter.

Have had my Droid X for just over a year and really liked the phone until last week.  I haven't been able to figure out what but something changed in a recent software/app update. Now the camera stopped working and battery drains about 3 times faster than usual. Everything else seems normal. I've tried battery removal, reprogramming (*228), rebooting in safe mode, etc. with no luck. Haven't tried Factory reset yet but went to local Verizon store and rep said the shutter doesn't open, my warranty is now expired, and all that can be done is replace phone! I'm really peeved! All my previous smart phones were LG are are still running fine (handed down to kids). Anyone have other options for trying to fix this Droid X?

I like the ability to customize my phone but reliability and endurance are much more important for me and if I'm going to have to spend $$$ on a replacement, I may have to opt for the next Apple product, if this Droid can survive long enough. Somebody convince me why I should stick with a Droid.

If you need someone to convince you, you sound like an excellent candidate for an Apple product.

Like you said, customization is secondary and in addition, you never have to worry about having to pull the battery.

Best of luck,

Nope..... you can make up your own mind on what you want for a phone/OS/manufacturer/network.

Actually, since GB, you can no longer turn OFF the shutter sound. I use Vignette and it USED to be able to be silenced. No lnger since GB -- unless someone knows some magic.

Yes Cody, it's still there.  When you are using the camera, go to

Menu > Settings > Shutter Tone.

Yea, I see/saw that ... but when I deselect it it makes no difference - the shutter clock still sounds in both camera Apps ... Are you saying that you've been able to Silence yours ??

Cody,  Yes, I took 2 pictures before I sent the post just to be sure and with it de-selected..... no clicking sound and when I re-selected it, the shutter sound returned.

Possibly the camera app you said you had may have overridden the option to select that feature?  Just a guess though....

Good luck to all of us with "X's"..... Smiley Happy
