Droid X constantly rebooting

I am wondering if anyone else has had the issue of their droid X rebooting on its own?  I have had my unit since launch day and fell in love with it out of the box.  Until I did the recent software update and since then my phone has been doing random reboots. I have called VZW and they are shipping me a brand new phone as part of the 30 day guarentee but until then I am looking to see if anyone knows of a fix to my issue.

Thanks

Yep!  Mine did it once a few days ago and twice today  - - be sure to report this on the Motorola Forums support page too.  The first one today was while I was in the App Market and the other time was during setting up Executive Assistant.  The battery seemed hotter than it has before too.  The life of the battery seems to be getting worse - even after dimming the screen almost too dark and after minimal usage.  Hope things get better.

As for the battery running hot I have been looking into a high capacity battery but I noticed that a number of companies that sell batteries instruct the user that battery will need a number of full charges to reach full charge capacity and the batteries are known to become warm during this cycle.... I just figured I would point this out because after I took that in consideration I noticed my battery life started to improve... Now I do now that batteries do not usually have to go through the drain/fill stages before battery hold charge better but it did seem to make a diffrence to allow to drain about half way and charge instead of keeping it on full

What apps do you have installed?

Two of my friends and I have the old Droid.  On July 5, all of our Droids started rebooting on their own over and over again.  I asked about it on the Motorola Support forum.  Someone recommended uninstalling the Weather Channel app.  Well, we all did and our re-booting problem went away.

They'd be shipping you a brand new phone even if out of the 30 day guarantee due to the fact that you have a 1year warranty as well as their are no Refurb units available yet.  I always add the additional 1 year warranty to my touch screen phones as well.

As for your resetting unit, install a Battery App and check the battery voltage.  Just for a quick reference, mine shows 90% Charge at 4156mV.  It could be that you just have a bad battery.

refurbs are available.  they tried sending me own for the rebooting issue and I refused to accept the shipment.

Yes. It's happening to me. It seems to happen about once a day. I can't detect any particular pattern. It happened once during a phone call. The call just went dead, the screen appeared to be frozen for about 5 seconds, then the whole thing powered off and rebooted. The other times it happened I was in the middle of texting or looking at something with the web browser, when the device froze and then suddenly rebooted? Not sure if I should request a replacement Droid X from Motorola or not?

I will say that I don't think it has anything to do with the Weather Channel app because I only just installed that app a couple days ago and my Droid was experiencing the rebooting issue before then.

I, too, got mine the day it launched and fell in love with it. But the more I have it, the more problems I'm having.  It reboots on it's own, sometimes once a day, sometimes, several times a day.  The battery stays hot.  When I first got the phone, I didn't have any battery problems, but as time goes on, I'm finding it won't stay charged for long.  I'm having to charge it a couple of times a day, even if I'm hardly using it.  I have taken my battery out SEVERAL TIMES, and that doesn't seem to matter.  I think I will have to take it back to VZW to see if maybe they can replace it.  Any additional suggestions??  I do love the phone!!!!

It's not just Droid X ...I have a Droid Incredible and I had same rebooting issues for about 3months ...I had called Verizon about the  problems and they don't want to hear it(ignore & Evade tactic). Verizon told me that they will replace with recondition phone...I said heck No!

After that I left comments on Better Business Bureau.  HTC did contact me today about updating PRL (roaming). All you have to do is After fresh reboot Press - *228 and selected option 2. I hope this helps!

I'm going wait for about a month...if this problem persists again. I'm going to hire a lawyer and go after Verizon!

I'll leave a message for all you to see.

People talk about how bad Apples's Iphones are with receptions and dropcalls. How often do you see a phone reboot itself?

This is completely outrages.

Return your phones NOW! Don't stick around for an UPDATE like I did.

Thats pretty funny. I was just thinking today I'm tired of getting screwed around.

I've been with Verizon for over 20 years. I've had nothing but problems with the Original Droid. They sent me 4 refurbs. I now have the Droid X and it is constantly rebooting. I hardly have any additional apps in it.

If the problem persists, I likely will be getting ahold of the BBB also.

The I Phone is being upgraded with each revision. Motorola seems to be starting from scratch with each new Droid.

I believe in Loyalty, but I also believe in fixing problems!!

Feeling much better. Just filled out and filed a complaint with the BBB. :smileyhappy:

Be nice and fair when filling one out. My beef is with Motorola.

I just ended up with the same problem last night.  I couldnt even turn off droid without taking out battery.  I did a hard boot. Thank goodness I had appbrain to re install my apps!  I replaced battery, was installing all my apps and when I loaded an app called "battery status - free" the droid went back into a reboot mode.  I had to hard boot again and re install.  This time I did not install the battery status -free and so far so good.

Most of the rebooting and freezing isues usually comes from a uncompatible app installed, the solution to this is to try removing all installed apps other than stock and see if the problem stops, so many say that the replacement device does the same thing as the one they sent back, this usually means that the issue may not be the device but something added to the device...  After owning a Windows device you usually develope this as a second thought because the chance of two seperate devices having the same exact issue is very slim..

If that were true, then why are those apps showing up in the android marketplace?  I know there's issues with the droid x that need to be looked into on the gb upgrade.  One proof of problems: Look at your user manual about audio zoom that doesn't exist.  Apparently it's shoddy work to put down a feature that hasn't been implemented.

All in all, I like the droid x, but I've considered switching out to an I phone over the reboot issue.  I was playing a game this morning and it rebooted in the middle of it.  When I first started using the DX before I put apps in it, I found that simply unplugging the usb cable while computer was using the sd card, it caused it to reboot too.  Why reboot?  Why not just pop up a box like windows does stating the device is no longer available or some other error?

I'm not really sure if Motorola is COMPLETELY at fault for the issue.  It's also an Android issue that's causing it to be incompatible with the Motorola phones, since another poster had mentioned the same thing with the Incredible.
