Droid X discharging while in car mount w/ car charger
aiwasoundsystem

So I've noticed over the past week and a half that my DX is discharging while in the car mount with the car charger plugged in.  I would think that the charger should be able to keep up with the phone no matter what the phone is doing.  Maybe the mount is bad.  Reading on another forum seems that others are having the same issue and it's due to the GPS maybe.

Mine charges while in the dock.

Did you check to make sure that the plug is in the cigerette lighter fully and you get a light on the charger? I have a couple of different chargers and sometimes they have to be wiggled to make sure that they are providing power to the phone (Or dock)

I am having the same problem.  I have narrowed it down to the dock portion itself.  There are some people that are NOT seating the X in the dock far enough, and that was causing the problem, but I know in my case, it is the dock itself.  It charges for a few seconds and then loses charging connectivity.  You should be able to see the charging indicator on the phone when you first put it in the dock, if you go to the home screen.  There is a charging (kind of like a lightening bolt) symbol in the battery gauge.  You won't see this, if the phone is fully charged at first, but as the battery drains a little you will see it charging (if it is).  Make sure first, that you check to make sure your cable (without the dock) is actually charging the phone, make sure the phone is seated properly, (still haven't found a case that will work in the dock), and if all else fails, do what I am going to do after work today, and bring the dock back to the Verizon store, and try to exchange it for another unit that works.  I have been on the actual Motorola support page, and this problem is not very common (at least from what I have seen), hopefully, a new dock will solve our problems.

It's possible that the phone is overheating and causing it to stop charging.  The original droid had the same issues.  Mine would quit charging after about 30 minutes of navigation and be extremely hot.  Ended up buying a generic vent mount and haven't had an issue with it not charging since.  They really didn't think out these window mounts too well.

At the risk of posting in a dead thread...

I notice the charging transformer supplied with the phone has an output rating of 850 mA.  The spec for a normal computer USB port is only 500 mA.  I wonder if the car charger is up to that much output.  I had the same problem in my windshield mount, but I'm also intrigued by the overheating theory.
