I heard Verizion is suppose to the I phone soon.  I will have the choice to either get the I phone, or Droid X, do to contract being up.  Which is the better phone?

                                                                    Thanks

Gee, dude, just jump right on in the line of fire with your first post, why dontcha....:smileyvery-happy:

You are walking backwards if you think you are going to get a definitive answer on that question.

Because there isn't one.

Both phones are good devices for different reasons. I'm not interested enough to try and break it down further than that.

In here, you'll find that nearly all of us think the Droid X (and the Android OS in general) is a preferable phone for our needs, desires, and lifestyles.

But cruise on into the iPhone section of this site (which should appear any minute now...:smileyvery-happy:) and those folks are going to give you a totally different answer.

You will find the same situation when you visit Android fanboy sites vs iPhone fanboy sites.

So when all is said and done, you'll have to read up on all the various comments and stories and decide for yourself. Sorry.

I personally think the Droid X is a better phone. I've had 3 iPhones. Sold each one of them shortly after the purchase.

I've had this same Droid X since July, when they first came out. I'd NEVER consider giving it up, unless I broke it and had to get another Droid X.

There ya go,

I agree with Gerio. It's a personal choice. However, I heard that the eye phone is not as easy to personalize as the Droid X, and not as accessible. Whether that is true or not, I have no idea, nor am I interested in finding out. I have both the Droid X and the Droid 2 (disguised as R2D2) and have no desire or interested in looking into the eye phone.

I don't think either phone is better, I have the X, hubby has the D2 & my daughter has the iphone. We are all happy with the phones we have. The only thing I can say is I loathe itunes and I believe it feels the same way about me.

I have really wanted an IPhone but didn't want to wait until it would finally make it to verizon so I bought the Droix X. After buying I found an interesting thing online about the 2 phones So I will share it with ya..

Hope it helps...

Ultimately, the question is "Do you want the iphone 4?". The problems/successes of that phone are out there for all to see. I am a dyed in the wool mac user and have wanted an iphone for years for it's compatibility with my other mac products and services, but not enough to drop VZW. That in mind, and knowing the strengths and weaknesses of the current iphone, I personally am willing to wait until June when the "New" iphone is traditionally introduced to see what improvements and compatibility enhancements are made. The current iphone, and the iphone Verizon will initially offer,  was designed with AT&T in mind. Let's wait and see what they have up their sleeves with iphone 5 and Verizon as their new bedfellow. As its stands, Droid X is still VZW's top dog.

it comes down to what you want. do you want simplicity or a tech device that can do more with less restriction?

if you want to have a tech device that does more but is a little more complicated go droid x.

i you want a simple device and don't mind apps you paid for being deleted by apple because they don't like them, go I phone

OK, I had to pipe in here...  I just happened to have this discussion with a friend who has been "salivating" about finally being able to ditch AT&T and get an iPhone on VZN's network. The discussion clearly took the turn that iPhone-wanna-bees have drank the Kool-Aid !  There is no arguing with these people. They just have come to believe that there is nothing better than the iPhone for a Smart Phone --  specs & features & usability & customization be damned.

I will tell you my experience though. Whenever I bring out my Droid X around an iPhone friend, they immediately (or very soon) hide their iPhone in their pocket. The Droid X 4.3" screen blows away their iPhone - as far as screen real estate, IMHO. Yes, if you look at the specs & pics on the iPhone, the iPhone clearly has better resolution - but the Droid X is very very nice as well. (If you're buying it as your primary DLSR Camera, you'll likely be disappointed). Then the issue of "NO ADOBE FLASH SUPPORT" on the iPhone just doesn't seem to hit home with them until I bring up a Flash site and ask them to do the same thing - which of course won't work. Then as others here mentioned, all MP3's (and I assume Videos) REQUIRE iTunes to manage music & videos!  Talk about a ball and chain.  with the DX you have several ways/options to do it - the basic one just to use Drag & Drop to folders on the phone. Then there is the big issue that you have little control over the iPhone as far as anything that Apple doesn't want you to do - but I guess you could say the same thing about the bloat software that Moto Blur introduces which can't be removed! All of my friends with iPhones CONSTANTLY have their iPhone plugged in to charge it. Battery life on smart phones is not great - especially if you surf the web and play music all day on it. The last thing I'll mention is NAVIGATION !  Google NAV is fantastic ... and FREE.  I don't think the iPhone has a FREE NAV APP like this. (at least none of my iPhone friends can produce anything that comes close.)

Anyway, I am clearly biased towards the Droid X - I've had it since Sept & love it. It's really been problem free for me - other than my own installing APPs that caused problems. (not all s/w is problem free.)

I read someplace that the iPhone is more of a Smart Phone targeting soccer moms ... The reason (I guess) being that you can't do much to harm it since you can't customize it that much ... unless you Jail Break it - which is a whole other discussion. If you don't want a lot of control and self-configuration of your phone, and everything done for you, the iPhone probably is the better choice. if you want (almost) total control over your phone, the DROID X, IMHO.

Good luck in whichever you decide on.

YMMV

As with anything else in life its all about what you as an individual choose.  Some people like Fords some Chevys; some like Nike some Adidas again its about your preferences.  This is the same w/phones.  I've had my eye on the Droid X since it first debut but, I'd just purchased a BB Storm 2 in November of 2009 and was pleased with it.  Well, this past November I did purchase the Droid X and I'm glad I did.  I for one haven't been a fan or should I say; I haven't had the desire to purchase an iPhone.  I've heard good and bad things about them and for me I think the deal breaker is not being able to watch Adobe Flash especially for videos.  Also, the iTunes store I heard can be a bear.  Again its about what you think you'd be happy with.
