Droid X won't update to newest update

My phone keeps saying updates cannot be checked for at this time. I read the other threads and I tried wiping the partion cache and that didnt work and going onto wifi. The only thing I haven't done is a hard reset because I don't want to loose anything. Is there anyway I could manually update this or if theres a notorious app that does this? Thanks

If you can not even complete check for update that usually is a installed app stopping the update check, usually the only option is remove installed app until you find the one or a hard reset.

There has been a number of user to experiance this issue but no one has any common apps that seems to cause this, it usually is a trial and error situarion, I am assuming maybe a app that retreives data from the web in one way or other like Pandora or iHeartRadio.  These are just guesses you will have to experiment.

I am sorry but I do not know what to tell you on this subject,  if I needed to guess I would figure that a lack of supported codacs may be the issue.

I have factory reset my droid x and update still fails. Dont think it is an app that is an issue.

To expand on a great point that Wildman makes, did you make sure that your apps and other data were not automatically re-installed when you did the hard re-set? As in a clean, fresh re-format? I was surprised to find that, upon the first restore I ever did on my X, it looked EXACTLY like it did before I did thIe restore, apps and everything.

Verify this point before proceeding any further...

I shouldnt have to do a hardreset though, i don't know why any app would block this or how it would block this. It's accessing verizon's software update directory and nothing else.

This has been discussed ad nauseum when updates come around. Wildman even discussed this very recently.

When Motorola and Verizon (and Google, I suppose, has some input in there somewhere) do an update, it's done on phones that aren't loaded up with apps from the Market. There are soooo many apps available that there's no way they can try their updates on every app out there (one of Windows' biggest problems).

So it is possible that an app has some function or process that works fine with the current firmware because that's the platform the app writers had to work with, but will have issues with the new firmware that hasn't been tested with new firmware.

It IS possible, it DOES happen. Personally, this recent update works just fine with both of my Droid Xs, one being bought on the day they came out and one bought last week. I've run them both through the wringer with the apps that I use. However, I certainly don't use ALL of the apps, so it's possible that I won't have problems, but someone else might.
