Droid X2 Battery life?

Wholesomeflame

I'm lucky enough to get 5 hours on a charge, and for some reason other people get great battery life. I've got maximum battery saver on, brightness down to 20%. What else can I do?

Make sure you turn off WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS when not using them.  Also, having a lot of widgets will drain battery faster, as well as having apps that sync too often.  Also, depending on your usage (light, medium, heavy), your mileage can vary quite a bit.  And, if you have poor signal, you may not get as good of battery life.

Yeah. I have all that off. Just 3G on, and I live ina 3G area so my signal is a constant 3-4 bars. As for widgets, all I have is google search and weather.

I've had my X2 for a month and a half (OEM battery, charger & car charger) and have read much on ways to manage battery life. While I've had some success, I'm most frustrated by strange phenomena that the phone can be fully charged, and plugged in to the car charger with Bluetooth to the sound system BUT, if using GPS & Google or Mapquest or AAA etc navigation, the battery still discharges in short order, so after an hour or two, if I unplug it from the car charger, its at the 15% warning level!!!???

Verizonin in essence tells me that is the way it is....but this seems absurd, that the car charger won't  at least maintain the charge at the level it was when plugged in.  A store rep suggested turning down the screen, which I haven't tried...but even that solution defeats the purpose of phone as visual navigation system.   Anyone else experience this or have ideas?  Extended battery might help, but no reason to think this would help too much on the drain speed.  BTW, the agent also suggested (off the record) getting a non OEM charger, that would not have the charging 'governor' and might at least keep up with the drain.

I'm just starting to search forums and will visit Motorola's and other forums too.   Thanks in advance.

Thanks to the Responses here, I purchased Motorola OEM car charger (with Hologram) from Amazon and it will keep up with the phone/navigation/streaming.   I also returned the Verizon Charger bought when I bought the phone to the Store....though, initially they balked as it had been more than 14 days, After I gave them the facts of my usage and solution that I obtained in these forums, a refund was produced  Outrageous that Verizon still sells the Verizon Charger with the Droid X2 (or probably other similar Android phones)....when it's not fit for its intended purpose.....charging and powering all the phone's features.

Be aware of how hot your phone may be getting. This is not good for batteries too. If you are using your car charger, GPS, Navigator etc. at the same time, it will tend to overheat. I know mine with a rubber case, got so incredibly hot I had to peel off the rubber case and hold the phone out the window at 45 mph. It cooled instantly. Now I only use the rubber case while using the car charger if I'm NOT doing Navigation (GPS).

You are probably going to have to get extended battery, the DX battery life wasn't great until I got the extended battery...  And you have to keep in mind you have a dual core processor and higher res screen, the two items that was upgraded will be the biggest impact on battery..

Is there like a larger cap battery that's the same size as the battery that comes with the DX2?

Yes, your charger isn't keeping up with the phone. I'd use the OEM Motorola car charger, not the generic ones, not even the Verizon-branded one. They can be had new on EBay for $12-$14 bucks. This is the car charger with the cool "M" logo that lights up a nice blue light when plugged in. I usually get 3 or 4 of 'em at a time.

Hope this helps,

I agree with Gerio - do NOT use the Verizon car charger...  The MOTO one (blue Moto) is the best and very reasonably priced on Amazon.com.  I've been on 9 hour car trips and have NEVER drained my battery - even partially ... It tops at 100% and stays there the entire time.  Also, the Verizon one introduces horrific high-pitch "interference" if you listen to any AM radio (e.g., sports, talk, etc.)

To the OP

I agree 100 % with  Geri  &  Cody When you buy Batteries an Chargers get OEM all the time an don't let one's tell you that Generic or off brands will work its not there phone an not there money if something goes wrong if a foren battery is installed an messes that phone up.  just a suggestion an i'm not upset just would hait to see a good phone ruined from a non OEM battery or Home or Car charger . A foot note: Too all to remember.

If you get a new charger home or Car or a battery an this is even motorola make sure you can see the motorla Hologram that says Motorola Original there are fakes out there that look like moto but there not that is if they don't have that sticker / Hologram on the product somewhere. :smileyhappy:  B33

Oh, and there are, of course, some batteries out there that claim to be the extended battery while being the exact size as the OEM battery. Moto, naturally, advises against using anything but their OEM batteries. Do a search for extended batteries.

Your call there,

Do what I did. I just kept going back to the store where I bought the phone and they kept exchanging batteries until I got one that, so far, seems satisfactory.  I am on my third battery for a phone I purchased (regrettably) six weeks ago.  What a piece of primitive trash this is.  It's old wine in new bottles as far as I'm concerned.  The phone calendar won't even permit a recurring appointment that occurs ever second or third or fourth week, something organizers have been providing for at least 20 years.  No wonder Motorola sold the division to Google.  Those guys must be smart enough to solve some of these ridiculous problems that we are all having

Well, I experience the same thing. When will these cell phone companies get the battery thing right? Motorola, you fail.  So does everyone right now, except for Apple apparently.  Then again, it's probably just a way to get everyone to buy another battery, car charger, whatever.  You'd think in the 21st century SOMEONE would figure a longer lasting battery for these memory and processor intensive phones.  Oh wait, they did, my bad, they're just selling them to us, not actually giving them to us with the phone. HMMMM.  You know, about 6 nonths ago I bought a Dewalt drill & reciprical saw set. Came with 2 18V rechargable batteries.  I usually get at least 12 hours out of the drill and about 6 out of the saw.  Apparenty they did some research for average usage on these tools and wanted to provide a battery that could handle it. Now thats a company that offers its customers a product that can stand the test of time.

Just an FYI, if you're talking about the Li-Ion DeWalt batteries, those are the same type (Li-Ion) used in cell phones.  Unfortunately, right now, battery tech is not developing nearly as fast as CPU size for cell phones.  The only real solution, other than turning stuff off, is to use a bigger battery which, of course, makes the phone fatter.  Something most users are not willing to compromise.  One reason that the iPhone does better on battery is because it has no capability for widgets and, AFAIK, does not sync on a regular basis.  Both of these things use the cell radio as well as the processor, using battery.

I know this was a collaborative solution, thanks for posting what finally worked for you, and that's awesome that you were able to reference this forum to be able to return the charger you bought from Verizon.

The bh6x battery is supposed to last longer without the extra bulk, however there are several things you can do to increase the life of your current battery, most of them are listed here in the replays and posts.
