Droid X2 SD card or memory reading card problem

I'm on my second DX2  - with the same problem, so starting to think my first DX2 itself wasn't the problem. I'm coming from a BB Storm2, and transferred contents of my BB's SD card to my DX2's card (after I formatted it), via USB cable from my computer. Once disconnected, I opened the files app, and selected SD card (choices : internal storage, SD cards, shared folders). The folder opened OK, but about 10 seconds later flipped back out to the All Apps screen, bypassing the screen with the three choices. The entire contents was about 500 mb or so, mostly photos, about five short videos, a couple of albums and a couple of small excel worksheets. 500 mb shouldn't be a problem for an 8 gb card. I did try doing the same with a San Disk card, in case card quality was an issue, but it did the same thing with the San Disk. My husband was playing around with it tonight, and added photos in groups of 12 until it started flipping him out also. I think the number of photos was about 143. He then made another folder, and added some photos that he had taken with our camera, taken with the camera on mega zoom. He got flipped out at 24 photos, but there didn't seem to be any way to figure out what size each of the folders he created. Are we missing something here? It's an 8 gb card, and my BB had no problems with the photos. It goes back this afternoon if I can't figure this out. Thanks
