Droid X2 Text Field Issues

Beginning today I am having an issue with the text field on the Droid X2. I will be typing a text message when the keyboard will minimize, once I pull it back up I can no longer make out anything I type it looks like symbols or just a blank area. I have powercycled the phone several times and I have checked for a system update which there is none. This is frustrating since this is a brand new phone and has had no damage whatsoever. Needless to say if this is what I can expect out of a product I've owned for not even a week yet I may as well go back to AT&T where I had no issues with the phone I had for two years.
Suggestions?
Anyone else having a similar issue?

Thanks to all of the feedback and suggestions!
I would also like to recommend another step. Found another customer that ran into the same situation, and they tried the following:
"Something that will help with the keyboard disappearing...it is because the next word prediction is on and that word is triggering the end of the message. I turned the next work prediction off and working fine on that part"
Let me know how this works out for you!

X2 here. No keyboard problems here (and that statement will probably land me in hot water, but it hasn't been fatal yet...)
You have 2 options. You can try a factory restore of the phone to see if it helps. Or take it back to the dealer for an exchange. And since you are within the 14-day return period, you can return the phone for another model, if you feel it necessary.
If I may, you seem quite ready to dump Verizon and go to AT&T over a hardware issue that is 100% unrelated to the carrier's service. I find this odd, but if that's all it will take, then you should return the phone now and go on to AT&T as soon as possible. Well, you brought that up.
I was going to suggest using another keyboard as you didn't mention which one you are using. But I now think that there is something deeper than the keyboard going on. Also, I'd check the settings in whatever keyboard you are using to make sure some weird option hasn't been selected, intentional or otherwise.

Yes. That did solve my issue with that but now I have a new one. My punctuation keys don't work. If I do press them my whole phone freezes and I have to restart it. Such a pain...

hey everybody, i stumbled onto this forum searching a different problem, but I may know the fix. Don't know if anyone else has posted this yet but to at least temporarily fix that stupid texting glitch where the keyboard disappears and comes back as illegible symbols try:
settings> applications > manage applications> running (applications)> multi-touch keyboard> clear data
I came across this on a different forum so don't give me any credit or blame haha. Hope it works for you guys!

I have had the Droid X2 now for a couple months and didn't have any issues until just the last two weeks. I started having the same issues where I would type a text message, then for no reason at all what I typed wouldn't show up, I couldn't delete anything or go back, and the phone would take me to a different screen that showed part of my message. I decided I would read through this site to see if it was just my phone and was surprised at how many are having this problem. I have taken the advice to turn of the "next word prediction." I am anxious now to see if this fixes the issue. That is the only problem I have found with the Droid X2, other than that I love the phone. Thanks for the help.

Thank you. I was just getting ready to restore my factory settings as the Verizon rep told me to do ovr the phone but I wanted to make sure I had everything backed up 1st and read this. I changed my setting and it worked. I don't know how they got switched anyway.

I downloaded swiftkey x as soon as I activated my phone, and now it switches between that and the original keyboard. I've uninstalled it and reinstalled it, nothing. I really don't want to reset my phone if I have a better option. I'm barely out of my fourteen days.. Any suggestions?

Honestly, if you're having problems with the keyboard freezing, or disappearing, or making illegible characters in your texts, the solution is:
Settings> applications> manage applications> all> multi-touch keyboard> clear data, clear cache.

I have just had this issue for the second time with my DROID X2. And turning off the Next Word Prediction solved the problem...but my question is, I followed this exact step when I had the problem 4 months ago--so how did the Next Word Prediction get turned back ON?

I don't know about your Next Word Prediction thing. But if you do this:
Settings> applications> manage applications> all> multi-touch keyboard> clear data, clear cache
it should fix the problem and you can keep your Next Word Predition turned on, because it's a useful feature. At least I like it.
