Droid X2, ready to pull my hair out

So for the past few months I have been using a Motorola Droid X2 running 2.3.3 and have been experiencing frequent and random freezes and restarts. I could be trying to lock the phone, open Google Voice, open Gmail, unlock the phone, or trying to use the camera and it may or may not actually work. If the phone rebooted, the green charge LED would stay lit even tho the charger wasn't plugged in. Also, the 3G connection started randomly dropping and the phone would have no data connection. To solve the data connection problem, I rang Verizon and she said to go into the settings and uncheck the Background Data box and wait a minute, then turn it back on. IT WORKED!!... for about 5 minutes then it would drop again. My wife's Incredible was having no problems connecting and staying connected to 3G so I knew it was the phone. Then another Verizon tech was put on the phone and said that Motorola was aware of the problem and that an update was coming, maybe that night or the next night. I was patient and dealt with it for a few days, the update never came, but a few days later the problem seemed to just go away and now the 3G/Background Data works again. That was about 2 months ago.  Also, about a month ago I took out my SD card all together and left it out, and uninstalled the Weather Channel app thinking it was acting weird and could be causing the problems; didn't help. I seriously don't think the red battery pull tag is going to last much longer since they are probably designed to be used about 30 total times during the lifecycle of the phone, not 30 times a month.

I just installed 2.3.4 and HOPEFULLY this update fixes the problems I have been having, but we will see. I just wanted to put this on here so if anyone else was going nuts about their $200 ($600 retail supposedly) phone not working right, you may know that you aren't alone. Verizon coverage is the best, but I don't understand why they can't help us out by allowing either another early upgrade or our money back on phones like these that should have never been released the way they are. For 2 phones I pay $150/month, using no more than 100 minutes combined per month, so you would think Verizon would almost be willing to GIVE me a working phone that costs them $100 to keep us onboard and handing them $3,600 for every 2-year contract...

Anyway, I will post back after a few days and let you know if the 2.3.4 update has helped or caused even more problems.

Thanks and have an awesome day!

I am as up to date on my Droid X. No more updates, yet. I've had my Droid for about a year and a half. The only problems I've had is the restarting after powering off problem, which mysteriously seemed to have corrected itself. And maybe one or two very minor irritations which I have resolved. Why am I so lucky?  Well, first, I don't have enough hair to pull out :smileyhappy: Second, I am very, very selective of my apps. Apps seem to cause more problems than any other thing I can think of. I only have installed apps I absolutely need. And even then, I read the comments very carefully. If I need an apps and it has more one stars than four or five stars, I don't download/install it. Only those apps which have four or five stars are in my drawer. I can also mention that just like with computers, apps can give you a virus. There are messages to that effect on the board. You should really check the apps that you've downloaded. One or two of them may be the cause(s) of your problems.

I am COMPLETLEY convienced the Freeze/lockup has something to do with the SD card or SD card slot. i retored my phone to 100% stock yesterday, NO bloatware removed etc...ran so nice all day, this morning i decided to put the SD card that came with it back in the phone, formatted it, and BOOM within 15 min, SCreen lock up

MOTO and VZ, you need to look into this. i think that is the issue on the freezes. im going to maybe call and see if i can get a replacement....

You have a bad SD card. That has nothing to do with moto or VZ. Get another SD card. It happens, SD cards just go bad sometimes and mess up the phone. Leave it out, whatever you do.

Contact Verizon, as I've been told SD cards are covered under your warranty.

I downloaded the 2.3.4 and now my phone has gone bonkers. The sys just keeps going thru all the home screens, even if you open an app, I'm taking it to a corp store tomorrow to see if they can do something, I mean they have to I can't even use it!!!!

They will likely just reflash your phone or do a Factory Reset.  Have you personlly done the Factory Reset without reinstalling any APPS ???  You may save the trip to the store and do this from your home.

The Motorola x2 dual core is the biggest disappointment ever. I have had many phones in my 57 year old life but never, ever had the problems as I have had with this phone. To make matters worse, Verizon will not work with you and will only switch you to another worthless X2 . I have approx 6 of these in the last year and all have the same problems. Customer service will only add excuses after excuses to satisfy you until you return again. I am sooo disappointed.

My Motorola Droid X2 has never worked the way I think it should have since the beginning of owning it.  After the first 20 days or so I called to tell them it works worse than my X1 they told me they could replace it with a refurbished one.  I laughed and they said that was their policy even though I just bought it and it was obviously not working the way it should.  I decided to just keep it and see if it got any better so I didn't have to get a refurb (which apparently I could get anytime within a year).  Well I finally threw in the towel after about 3 months and took VZW up on the refurb.  Well, the next one had more issues with the screens lagging, apps force closing, text slowness, data connection issues, dropped calls and I could go on.  Well, this past week and a half I've went through 3 phones.  I'm now on my 5th phone and the data connection on 3g and wi-fi periodically drop every 5-10 minutes.  It is ridiculous.  I'm at a loss for words.  I wish I would have never upgraded and  could just get my X1 back and my $100 for the phone and over $100 for all the accessories I bought.  I'm losing faith with my VZW relationship.  I've been with them for about 18 years.  I'm not happy at all.
