My Droid X2 keeps spontataniously rebooting.
As you might imagine, this is a bit annoying. it MIGHT be because of the Amazon cloud player, but it rebooted this AM when I tried to fire up the camera, and it's done that afew times before, also when I tried to open the gallery application.
It rebooted any number of times yesterday but it was running very hot as it was downloading files over the 3g.
Is anybody else having this problem?

You do know that from your post you have probably identified the common issues that users experience, a problem app usually is one of the main reason for rebooting of a device, I would remove all apps you installed or boot into safe made and see if issue goes away... http://support.vzw.com/clc/devices/knowledge_base.html?id=43641

MY X2 has rebooted about every other night for the last week since I got it. It usually happens in the night dock when there is music playing through the phone. The entire phone locks up and I have to take it out of the dock and pull the battery then its fine. It reboots fairly often in the car dock too. The other night, it rebooted 3 times and on the last re boot, it made all kinds of noise, I thought the fan belt on my car came off, until it rebooted again, then it worked fine. Otherwise, it's not a bad phone. Waiting patiently for 2.3!

Late to this party, but my X2 locks up and I have to battery pull to reboot a lot...and it does it on it's own all the time, usually at the most inopportune times.
My son's X does it too.
I can't pinpoint a reason or app or action that causes it except when it's been on for long periods of time and hasn't been rebooted manually, it tends to reboot or lock up requiring you to reboot it. I treat it like a computer. Your computer has issues when you don't turn it off and reboot occasionally so why should this be any different. The only problem is, it's annoying as hell when you've typed a decent length email and it locks and reboots on its own.
Annoying.

It really sounds like you have a rogue 3rd party APP causing your problems. Are there any common APPs that you & your son installed? Can you put your finger on roughly when the issue started - or has this been going on since day 1 with the phone? When you say it happens "a lot" - and assuming by that you mean at least several times a day - I would boot into SAFE MODE and run for an extended period of time, just to see if the problem goes away. if it does NOT reboot on its own, you probably have a 3rd party APP causing your grief. Other options? Just make a list of your APPs and then start Uninstalling them from last-installed date - maybe groups of 5 at a time, then test for a while. A Factory Reset - but turn OFF the automatic reinstall of your Apps.
Let us know if you can't find the procedure to do either of those & we'll direct you to the instructions. (Try SEARCH bar just above).
Oh, and welcome ... good luck.
edit: Here's SAFE MODE process per Wildman's post up above : http://support.verizonwireless.com/clc/devices/knowledge_base.html?id=43641

Cody21,
My X2 keeps on rebooting itself. Once it rebooted when i was on the phone with my cousin. My apps are all bought from the market place.
My friend told me that when he was having issues with his phone randomly rebooting, Verizon changed it out for him because it was a bad phone. I''ve uninstalled and reinstalled all my apps many time overs but having it reboot at least 3 times a day is very inconvenient.

I'd have to ask the obvious questions first:
- How long have you had your DX2 ?
- How long has this REBOOT been going on?
- Have you tried running in SAFE MODE for a day - this will rule out a rogue 3rd party APP since you won't be able to launch any of them. You will be constrained to just the default Apps that get installed with the phone. (Instruction just above).
- Have you tried the WIPE SYSTEM CACHE procedure?
- Have you EVER done a Factory Reset in conjunction with the software updates (Froyo > GingerBread > and later update?) This is highly recommended by some people. Personally I've never had to do this, but if you have that many issues it's probably time to do so -- but don't allow the automatic reinstall of your APPS after the reset .. There's an OPTION in Settings to ensure that.

I've had that same issue across devices. The update killed the original X and the replacement is the X2. The reboot is consistent with the screen being locked while another function is executing: trying to lock the screen right after plugging to charge, trying to UNlock the screen after receiving text messages or voicemail, often times using the desktop charger causes an instant reboot. I've done a factory reset, sd card reformat, removed apps, removing task killers, removing autokill apps from the included task manager...everything! I received a replacement device as well as a new battery and the issue persists while in safe mode IN AN OUT OF BOX STATE. I'm all too aware of apps being a pain so I wiped all of them out. Still no dice. the only consistent parameter being that it's happening on Moto phones! I had an LG Ally that worked just fine with loads of apps installed (system slowed down but that's expected I think). The rebooting and screen freezing is most prevalent with a fully loaded 16 gig memory card inserted. Since the phone is advertised as handling up to 32 gigs I don't understand how half that is an issue.
So yeah, that's just my two cents on a priceless issue. I'd love to get away from motorola but I'm stuck for the time being.

Wow ... very strange ... but I guess there are lemons in all aspects of consumer goods ... sorry you're going through this and can find a solution that works for you.
Did you try JUST a Factory Reset and not auto-reinstall ANY Apps ??? Just to see how it runs like that for a few days? or maybe that's what you meant by "safe mode IN AN OUT OF BOX STATE" ????
Good luck. Hopefully VZN can offer you something.

I guess this phone does good with only the basic apps that come with it. I have been having the reboot issue literally 31 days after I got the phone. I am serious, I counted the days. I am not sure how to fix it, Verizon isn't sure how to fix it, and so i have to deal with it.
I have rebooted, unistalled all downloaded apps, and did a factory reset. None of these options lasted a day. I am eligible for a discounted upgrade but I don't think it would be worth it to stick with Verizon.
I guess verizons customer service is good because I can talk to someone fairly easy, but when they get on, the only solution i have ever got out of them is to turn off device, take out battery for a minute and then restart.
Good luck to whoever has this phone.

Welcome to the X2 club. Random crashes and reboots aren't uncommon. It was worse on Froyo, but Gingerbread still has trouble. I've had lock-ups and restarts from day one. Stability seems better on 2.3.5, so make sure you're running that (Settings > About Phone > Android Version). If you're not, force a system update (Settings > About Phone > System updates).
Personally, it didn't matter if I had third-party apps left and right or if I'm using the stock apps right after a reset. It would crash either way. Not only that, but that has to be the lamest excuse I've ever heard. "Here's a phone running Android, BUT DON'T USE ANY OF THE APPS."
Motorola barely gave us 2.3.5, denied their earlier public promise to unlock the X2, and finally stated we won't be getting Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0). I feel like I've been hung out to dry by Motorola's support and, personally, I refuse to buy another Motorola phone until they take a long, hard look at what "customer service" means. Many people in the X2 community feel the same way. I have pre-ordered the Samsung Galaxy S III and while I'll miss my multimedia dock, I won't be looking back.
Motortola, if you're not going to support your own phones, at least open it up to the community and let them do the support for you.

I have the same problem with my X2. It has rebooted from the first night that I got it. I thought that it was just a odd thing that might not happen again, but it does. I average a reboot or two a day. There might be more but sometimes it happens when I am not near the phone. I will have it on the table next to me while I am reading a book or watching TV and it just decides to reboot. The most common time it reboots is when I try the swype to the right to unlock screen. It reboots mid swype before the numbers pop up to unlock. I have contacted Verizon and the fix is to just send me a refurbished phone. I have a few friends with the X2 and they all have some level of rebooting and issues. So I decided to just not buy anymore Motorola products and am getting the Samsung S III .

Mine just started doing this and frankley I am really tired of the whole droid thing myself they upgraded me to a droid x2 last november because my droid x kept having problems with hanging up on people while I was on the phone to the point that I had to turn of the speaker phone and as a nurse who does home health this is not an option for me for privacy reasons. Anyways it started just a couple days ago and has gotten worse. It auto downloads new apps to my phone and places them on the main screen, will turn off when I go to pull it out of sleep mode, and then today I had all my volumes up and was not getting ANY tones and while trying to figure this out it turned off and reset and when the sd card notification normaly plays my message notification played. Supper weired. I will be calling in the AM to have them replace it on there dime. I am VERY unhappy with ALL Droids!

Im quite frankly fed up with verizon and the x2. I am on my fifth x2 since august of last year. This rebooting always happens at the wrong time. Im just tired of them saying they will send a new phone to replace the broke one. How many times do they have to send a new phone before they get the picture? I was told i could buy another phone at retail price but who wants to pay an arm and a leg?

I am having the same issues with my Droid x2. They are sending me a new one but my first thought was... if this phone which I bought new did it, why wouldnt my new one they are sending me be any different. I love this phone but the rebooting at anytime and freezing is very annoying. Lets hope I dont get another lemon haha. I might just buy a droid razor or Galaxy, anyone know anything good or bad on those phones?

It appears that the reboot issue is not just with the X2. I had the same thing happen on the HTC Incredible. VZ upgraded me to the X2 at no charge. I only had the reboot probem after an early July software up date. The software was 2.3.4 but the X2 has 2.3.5 and for the last month, I haven't had any issues. I'm almost certain the patch was defective. It took some time but VZ support really came thru an I'm happy so far.

FIXED IT!!! My Droid X started a continuous loop of rebooting which of course made it useless. I removed the Micro SD card and it worked fine ... of course without a lot of my favorite apps. I put in a new 8 GB MMC and downloaded my favorite apps that were on the card and I'm back in business with most of what I need. I put the old MMC in my laptop and I can read it, so I suspect the problem lies someplace in a fault FAT that the Droid X doesn't like. I will copy the contents to a stick, reformat the MMC, and then recopy the contents back ... then reinsert and check. But at the moment ... all is well.

I had the same problem and the same resolution.
I had done a factory reset on the Droid X and it would reboot every time it got to the android "setup your phone" screen.
so i figured it was time for a new phone. unfortunately i cannot early upgrade until October so i re-activated an old Storm i had.About 4 hours into using the Storm it also started randomly rebooting. I thought had the worst luck in the world and it was probably time to consider joining the Amish until i remembered that i had moved my SD card from the Droid to the Strom.
Took the SD card out of the Storm.....it stopped rebooting, Turned on the Droid.....it stopped rebooting
i have seem a bunch of post, in an attempt to fix my phone, where users report that this issue moves from their original phone to their replacement phones (sometimes even to the 4th replacement). If you are having this issue i would recommend taking the SD card out as your first step.

The odd part is that now my DroidX will not function using the original 16 GB Micro SD chip after being formatted and the original files copied back on. If I do NOT put the files back on .... then in that case there is NO continual rebooting. So one of the apps is corrupt or I have a virus. I was rooted before .... and I am still rooted now since I never moved the program to the SD card. So the obvious diagnostic is to just remove the SD card and see if it works ... and then download and rebuild what's important (which is probably about 10% of what was on the SD chip.

I have been having these issues since the original Droid. I have had several replacements with the same problems each time! Then they upgrade me to an X2 that starts having the same problems too & I'm already on my 2nd or 3rd - I've lost track and not even going on 1 year into this one yet! Now I see why everyone is switching to the IPhone. I'm done paying for the junk Droid phones when I spend more time trying to fix the phones & waiting on refurbished ones to come in the mail!

Since the end of May I have gone through 4 Droid X and now on my 2nd Droid X2... problems are the phones locks up all the time, have to do a hard reset at least 2 times a day if not more..... Restarts all the time, the phone can just be sitting on my desk or I can be in the middle of checking email or making a phone call. Here in the last week, and I have only had this phone for 2 weeks tomorrow, when I make a call, if it is on blue tooth hook up in my car, it takes 10-15 seconds before the screen ever changes from when you hit a speed dial button. Or if its an incoming call, it does not matter if it on blue tooth or not, it rings several times before the screen comes up for me to be able to answer it and at that point it has gone to voice mail or the call has hung up. At the point of calling tech support once again... Since it is still under warrently.... But as much as I have always liked Motorola products over the years...I am getting over this quickly... And way over refurbished phones.
