Is there anyway to set my Droid X2 to notify me when I receive a text message and voice message? My phone only displays the icon at the top right & that doesn't help when I am not looking at it. I cannot find answer in the online manual. Thanks!

You can't this answer at the store or Verizon Customer Service?

Yes. (ooh, a bad flashback, sorry, I'm better now....)
In Voicemail, go to Voicemail, click the menu button (the button on the bottom left of the phone. Click settings. From there, you can turn on the voicemail notification and select which notification tone you wish to hear when you are notified of a voicemail.
In text messaging, it depends on which app you are using, the stock messaging ap or another 3rd party app from the market. But getting the notifications turned on is gonna work kinda the same (yeah, that was coherent, eh?).
Open whatever messaging app you are using, and on the main page, click that wonderful menu button at the bottom left of the phone. A settings menu for the messaging app will open and somewhere in that settings menu will be a place to turn on and off the notifications for that messaging app. Once you've turned on the notifications, you'll see a place somewhere in he settings that allows you to select which notification tone you wish to play when you get a message.
It might be worded a little differently among the various apps (I'm familiar with the stock app as well as Handcent, my personal favorite, and GO messaging, which is good, also), but you should be able to figure out what you need to do pretty easily once on the settings menu.
Hope this helps,

When I tap the voicemail icon & then press the menu key, nothing happens. Geri, thanks, your instruction worked on the text messaging.

"click that wonderful menu button at the bottom left of the phone"
I love how you worded that!
@jax0698
Are you using visual voicemail or the standard voicemail system from Verizon? That might make a difference.

I am using the standard voicemail that came with my phone from Verizon.

Otherwise you might need to look into an application like "No LED" or "Missed Call" for additional notification options.

Thanx, Ann...
Ya know, I was referring to instructions on Visual Voicemail when I suggested that procedure. I can't say that I know of any notifications of a regular voicemail, although I'd be surprised if there weren't at least something in the notification bar at the top of the screen...
Maybe not...

Granted this is for the Tbolt, but I do get one sound notification of a new voicemail. It happens to be the same sounds as my email notification. I also get a blinking LED.

At all cost, I try not to go that route, the customer service at the store closest to me is horrible. I stay with them only because their phone service is awesome! Unfortunately, it appears I may have to suffer through another long trip to the Verizon store. Thanks!

Thank You Community for all of your suggestions/recommendations!
Are you trying to get a sound notification or an icon notification for new text/voice message?
If you are looking for a sound notification for a new text follow these steps
Main Menu>Messaging>Menu>Messaging Settings>enable Notifications>also Select Ringtone you want to be played when you get a new text.
The text message icon should now appear in the Notification Bar, but there is no flashing LED on the screen to constantly remind you. Same thing with the Voice Mail.
I have installed No LED from the Market on my phone and that is what gives me the LED reminder that I have a new email, voicemail, text.
I hope I was able to answer your question!

I would suggest ditching the VZW voice mail and switch over to Google Voice for voice mail. I love it and it actually gives me a notification for the actual VM, a text message and email to my google email (both text and email will actually transcribe it as best as it can so I can read the voice mail instead of listening to it - great if you are in a meeting or something where you can't easily listen to it)
In addition, the stock text message app (I have a Droid X) is pretty lackluster, so I use Handcent.
Both of these options let me have better control over notifications and sounds....Handcent actually provides me with a popup even when the phone is locked as well as a blink of the notification light (you can change colors of it too!). Atleast that way I don't have to constantly check the phone to see if the notification bar triggered
