Droid YouTube video resolution dropped dramatically after first day

On Friday, November 6, 2009 (the first day of Droid sales) I was watching a YouTube video that was extremely high resolution. The Droid processor and Verizon data network kept up beautifully with the entire 3 minute video. (The specific video can be found by searching YouTube for "The Government Can" and then selecting the Tim Hawkins video with over 2 million views.) I then played the video a second time for my wife. To compare, I then pulled out my iPhone and we couldn't believe the difference. On the droid we could see Tim's facial expressions while on the iPhone his face was a smeared blob. The difference was jaw-dropping.
The next day I wanted to show someone else how incredible YouTube videos look on the Droid and the video clarity was now equivalent to the iPhone. I'm not talking a little difference, but a huge difference. It made me think that Verizon decided to turn down the YouTube resolution after the first day, maybe some network management going on?
Did anyone else notice the extreme drop in YouTube video bandwidth after the first day the Droid went on sale?
Thanks,
Todd

Thanks supitsmike for the suggestion for high quality. Do you happen to know if there is a way to set it to always open in high quality, or do we have to redo the menu thing each time?

If you are connected via WiFi it will always do HiQuality First.
3G you will need to select it.

I'm having that same problem. I've had my Droid for one day now. I turned on the WiFi but the problem persisted. Websites seem to load very quickly, but if there is a high-res video embedded, it slows down or never loads.
Also, I notciced that my YouTube searches on the Droid sometimes don't bring up the same videos as YouTube would on my computer.

It's because you need to clear the cache from Youtube.
Menu on the honescreen>Settings>applications>manage applications>Menu>Filter>Filter All> Youtube>Clear Cache
