Hello, TaylorHeal-
I understand the frustration this is causing is not fun for you. I want to help and will continue to research this for you, I just have a few questions. What software version is on the Charge? Go to Settings> About Phone>Baseband to view this. Are you able to use third party camera applications from the Google Play store withour failure? Do you get any alerts or error messages when using the built-in camera app? Or is it just shutting down the phone immediately? If you have not already, enable safe mode (http://bit.ly/n2EIBZ) on the phone and try to camera to see if it continues to crash.
Keep me posted
Thank you!

I have had the same exact problem with my Samsung Droid.
My baseband version is: i510.06 V.FP1 SCH-I510.FP1
You can hear the camera click noise and then the screen goes black.
It will do nothing until you pull the battery.

I have a similar issue, but mine isn't shutting down all the time, the image just freezes on the screen. I can hit the back button and get back to the phone and try again, but this is very frustrating. I have had my charge for about a year and for the first 10 months, all pictures and video were perfect and easy. In the last couple months, I have noticed the problem. I have
Hardware verson i510.06
Firmware version 2.3.6
Kernel version 2.6.35.7-FP1
Been searching the internet trying to find a fix, no luck. Have the problem even in safemode and tried removing any of the "battery saver" programs.
Any help would be great.

My Droid Charge ...crashes lots with using the flash on the camera....
So I tried keeping the phone plugged into the regular charger...and then took pictures using flash...and each time no problem...no locking up and having to pull battery.. to reboot. It has to be a battery problem... and I assume that if the battery is somewhat weak...and not fully charged....also background apps running...using the flash and the camera draws a lot of juice crashing the phone. If you think about it....when you take the picture lots of things happen...the camera trying to process the shot...and sap from the flash just overloads what it can take. Stronger battery....full charge..seems the solution at least with my phone.

I also noticed someone said why doesn't the phone crash when using the flashlight app.......Well the phone is only using the flash not trying to process anything else such as the camera trying to process an image.

Have you tried pulling the memory card? Went into the Verizon store last week, they pulled the battery, then the memory card, then replaced them and booted back up. Camera running good so far. No problems with taking pictures. Not sure why, but that might be a partial fix. They didn't swap the memory card with a new one and my battery was at 30%.
