Droid or Blackberry?

I now have a BB Tour, and I love it. But, I am looking at the Moto Droid, and was wondering if anyone could tell me why I would want the Droid over a Blackberry?

or better yet, basspro, tell us why you have the BB Tour and what the Tour lacks that you need.  this way we can tell you what the Droid can do for you and what it lacks that you need or desire.  i could go on about what the Droid does for me but that is just it, FOR ME.  every person here has the Droid for their own needs, separate from others.  and this way we can start giving you examples from our market and or experiences from apps that you may own or want.

The Tour does not lack anything that I need. I am just a tech "nut" that likes to have new toys. I guess my question would boil down to if the Droid does everything that the BB does.

I agree with Will here, but since you mentioned it:

Yes the Droid does everything the Tour does and more (And get this -- without the buggy glitches!). I don't know how many apps that the BB Marketplace/Store has, but Android's marketplace has a ton. Personally I like the Droid's keyboard, though it does take a bit of a learning curve, it's a very fast phone -- and it can only get better.

Remember that the Android OS is an Open Source OS. Meaning that it can probably do more than the average "Smartphone" can do (see:iPhone) without it being jailbroken, or even rooted (though I have to admit it's a fun process).

Coming to Android from a Blackberry, and moving my daughter from BB to Android, I don't feel there is any comparison.  The Moto Droid has had very few issues (except one stuck out-going picture email) and the Droid Eris for my daughter (except for the few days we kept her old phone after the bug-ridden update that causes frequent lock-ups on the Eris.)  The Blackberry devices, 2 different models, would often freeze, or loose internet connectivity, requiring battery pulls to fix.  The browser on Android is so much better than BB's browser, it's not even close.  The app selection is limited, and almost every app that might be worth-while for BB are $3 and up, not to mention the ever-present threat of RIM being bought-out by the "Evil Empire" to get their footing back in the Smart Phone market, now that version 6.5 of their OS is a flop and version 7 won't be shipping until sometime late 2010, and even then it will almost certainly be too little, too late.  (I figure if I mention them by name, I'll get edited saying I'm not being "nice", you can take a guess on who I am referring to.)

You only have to look at what happened to Danger and the Sidekick once assimilated by the E. E. to see what you'd be facing if it ever happened. :smileysad:

Everything that I underlined is the exact reason why I got an Android phone instead of a BlackBerry. Why? Because I did my research first.

I just wish that people would realize is that BB is really only good for their almost seamless way to connect to corporate e-mails and such. Not that BB's are bad phones, my lady loves them.

Before I got my current Blackberry 8830 I had a Verizon 6700 that ran Windows Mobile.  That old phone did everything I wanted it to do except my office wouldn't allow me to use it for work emails.  The 8830 connects to the blackberry server at work, but that is the only thing it does better.   The internet browser is virtually unusable.  The player that Audible.com developed for downloading audible books was so bad I bought an iPod for my audible books.  The new Bing application that Verizon recently pushed to my phone leaked memory so badly I had to delete it.  I just got my wife and daughter an Eris and can't wait until I can upgrade my phone.  I would gladly give up the work email to have a phone that works again, although I will likely be just as happy connected to the Microsoft exchange server.  In my opinion Blackberry has some serious problems and unless RIM has a miracle coming quickly I don't think they can compete with the Androids.

Personally I would get an Android phone over a blackberry any day. The Droid has many cool features to offer. I think the best part of the Droid is the fact it has access to the Android market. Where you can download tons of apps to make your phone even more cooler. Most of the apps are for free. Touch screen I've read is pretty good. Everything you want is basically at your finger tips.

It really depends on how you use it.

If you want a toy with lots of bells and whistles and don't care much about it being a functional phone or pda, then the Droid is for you.

If you want a functional pda and phone, stay with Blackberry.
