Droid's X live applications

Before I ask this question let me state that I am in no way shape or form going back to Sprint.

I was wondering if Verizon has any free live applications such as Sprint.  My friend has the HTC EVO and he is able to go onto Sprint's network and watch live TV channels for free.  He was also able to pull up a live video of our local news and current weather conditions. He states this is not on the Android market but offered free by his carrier.  He often jokes that the X can't do as much as the EVO.  Maybe I am in the dark when it comes to the live aspect on the X.  Not having live apps as such makes me jealous of the evo owners.  Can someone help me?

Thanks

http://www.mobiletv.net/ (website, no software downloads required. 36 live channels, including CNN, ESPN and others).

tv.com (android app, recorded video)

Verizon VCast (recorded video).

To answer the "live" question, Verizon only offers VCast, recorded shows, but it carries almost every network and a lot of cable shows.

TV.com is an app with a lot of recorded shows.

Mobiletv is what I use for "live" TV, but it is available to all and NOT exclusive to Verizon.

If anyone knows of more, I'd like to know, too.

I agree, Mobiletv.net looks fantastic.  However for some reason it doesn't work on my DX.  The advertisement plays and a banner appears saying "video not optimized for mobile", after the advertisement the video fails to load and will even crash the browser.

I tried to visit the "Direction.tv" link and that worked ONE time, now if I visit it I get the same advertisement as before, then the flash says "connection failed:application rejected connection".

I've power cycled my phone.

I've tried multiple browsers.

I've completely cleared all history, navigation cache, V8 counters, cookies, cache, and form data

I've done all this with the stock browser set in "Android" and "Desktop" UAstring options.

I would love to actually view these video streams, anybody have any thoughts or suggestions?

I've gotten that error message once, but the video still played. I don't know if this matters, but do you have"flash" installed on your phone?

Yes, I do have flash 10.1 that comes with Froyo.  I should also mention that I've also tried this on WiFi and on 3G, so it shouldn't be a network thing.  Both sites load just fine on a computer...

Your post gives me a little hope that you've received the message, but have still been able to see video.  So far for me, it has never worked on Mobiletv.net, and only once on Direction.tv.

I just checked mine again.  I'm now having the same trouble you are, but only on certain stations.  I can get TV from ABC and the Disney Channel.  But not TBS, CBS, or ESPN.  I get the "connection failed" message.

This site was upgraded. It used to be about a dozen channels. Maybe something's changed. It was great during bowl season. I watched ESPN for games a lot while at the malls and otherwise away from a TV. Don't know what's going on now. I guess it was too good to be true. As they say, you get what you pay for (free).

Very true. :smileyhappy: We need to keep things into to perspective. I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't missing something and that it wasn't just me or my phone.

This mobiletv is hit-and-miss. At 5:30 AM this morning, almost every channel I checked was working. ESPN (Sportcenter), CNN, FoxNews, TBS (Married With Children), CBS, NBC, ABC (Local news from Florida stations, not sure why they run those feeds), TNT (some show called "Angel") and History Channel (infomercial for NuWave, same as on my cable).

MSNBC didn't play. Or, maybe it was on the "far left" side of the display and I couldn't see it.

Nonetheless, it's an interesting site to check out for TV access.

I wonder if there is purpose to it?  I have to think that the broadcasting companies can't be thrilled with the idea of their cable channels being streamed for free instead of paid for.  They might intentionally block some channels at certain times of the day in order to satisfy some demand from the networks?  Maybe they aren't letting "new" stuff on these channels through to mobile?

Jut speculating. It's a great site and a good find. I can see myself checking it out now when I'm bored instead of looking for a game to play.
