Not sure about the start-up sounds, but you can turn on the screen sounds in the sounds section of the settings.
Go to "Settings/Sounds" and look for this option.

I believe a lot of folks in DX land didn't care for the "DROID" sound on booting up, so, I believe, this new fix cancelled it. My droid doesn't announce itself anymore either, no big deal. I don't know if you can put it in, if you like it. As for me, I don't miss it.

The startup sound is the notification alert under Settings > Sound > Notification Ringtone and also check the volume under Settings > Sound > Volume.

Just looked at my settings. Yup, have "Droid" checked as my notification ringtone. Yup, volume is as high as it can go; however, when I boot up, my Droid doesn't say its name any more. No biggie, didn't pay any attention to it anyways. It does say "Droid" nice and loud when my calendar shows that I have a scheduled appointment coming up. I still believe that the latest upgrade cancelled the Droid sound on boot up. From the threads on the board, a lot of people didn't care for it.

One last thing, goto Setting > Sound and scroll half way down and see if the SD Card Notification is checked because that is what originally triggers the alert when the card is detected.

Yup, that was it. Checked off SD Card Notification and got Droid to tell me its name. Now, when I turn on my Droid I will know that I have a Droid and not one of those yechy Window phones. All kidding aside. Checking the SD Card Notification worked like a charm. Thanks for the info.
