Droid x problems

I have been having problems with my phone not having a steady connection since I bought a house in May of 2010. I've called Verizon several times to try and get it fixed. They always tell me they are working on it and will call me back. Talked to them Friday and they were supposed to call me Tuesday and tell me what they found out and of course, they did not.

So I called them late Tuesday and another representative said she would call me today and let me know what she found out and here it is 745PM and no call. I'm just thinking about how many people have trouble connecting and they put you on this infinite loop of we will call you back tomorrow or next week and it just goes on until the customer gets mad and has to come to this forum to vent. Why even tell someone you are going to call them and then not. Would it not be better to just say we can't fix it.

It's not just my phone, my wife's Droid 2 does the same thing, service goes up and down. Sometimes we have none, sometimes we have all the bars showing.

Pretty disappointed.

I am not understanding, you do realize that when you move to another location your reception on a mobile device has a chance of getting better or worse?   I really dont see what Verizon can do if they dont have towers in that area to giveyou the reception you want the only solution for them is to add more towers and I do not see that happen for your situation...

You may want to look into a Network Extender like I did to increase my reception at my property...  Check it out at http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/store/accessory?&action=gotoFemtocell

I found this helpful when I get a company that says they will call you back and doesn't. Call them again, and if the person says that s/he will call you back, get there name and telephone number and tell them that you will call them back within 24/48 hours. If they will not give their name/telephone number, ask to speak to a supervisor.

As for your reception problem, I agree with Wildman. Sounds like you have a lack of towers in your new area. As for an extender, have no idea how good or bad they are as my reception is excellant.

Mine isnt bad in my area but sunce ut runs through a broadband connection it helps a lot, basically it like having your own tower siting in your house and in most case keep you are close as possible to a maximum signal..  Basically all carriers have bad reception and my house so I allow friends on Sprint to roam on my repeater so they wont miss calls at my house..

there could be two possible factors in this matter the first one Wildman an Mortb struck on is the most obvious but there could something in your house causing interfearence when you go outside does your signal get better then when you go back in it drops there are things in homes that can drop signal signigically an does this happen while in the basement or upstaires outside they say trees, buildings, powerlines can effect signal. Well inside Sheetrock Metal studs an Widows with metal Frames around them can throw off your signal or decrease it.

Now i was told back some time ago by a Verizon rep that the 4G signal is supposed to Penetrate Buildings a hole lott better because of the 700 megahertz band but i don't know if this holds water or not you'll just have to see if its works for ya

The technician I spoke to first said there is a tower two miles away and one six miles away and I should be able to hit the one six miles away easy. My wife's Droid 2 works here most of the time. I have a network extender and paid 100 bucks for it and it never worked very well because I live out in the sticks and my dsl is barely fast enough to meet the specs.

The thing is they sold me this Droid X in August after I moved here so the comment about it's not Verizon's fault and they would have to build new towers is so lame.

I'm just commenting on their poor customer support that tells you one thing and does another. Today is Thursday and I'm still waiting on that call from Tuesday and yesterday.

My house is built with wood. It has a metal roof. My neighbors AT&T phone works here and when we first moved here, I bought a Sprint 3G card for my computer so I could get the internet and it worked great so the metal roof is moot. My friend in Dallas comes here often and his MetroPCS phone even works out here.

I'm going to call them and cancel my account. Sprint works well out here and they will cover some of my early termination fee. I think they don't know how to fix it and are just putting me off, meanwhile I spend 180 bucks a month for two phones and can't even use mine 90% of the time.

Just curious if you tried the *228 option 2 thing - to update the PRL for your phone(s). ??

Yes, it connects me to the Altel tower from what the tech told me, which is a problem. I should be connecting to the tower six miles away which is a Verizon tower instead of the Altel tower. So the update PRL does not help. I'm thinking now it's my phone after reading all the other complaints about the Droid X and I guess I see why they are not calling me back. Spoke to another technician today and she said she did not know why they did not call me back, but they are working on my problem. and to give them until Monday. She walked me through making some changes on the phone and it did not help.

Mabe it is a "roaming" issue since you're picking up Altel ?  Not sure if it would help (I never tried it) but what if you make sure your Roaming (Settings / Mbile networks / System Select) is set to HOME and not Automatic?  Maybe there's some other Roaming setting that needs to be changed?   Just a thought ... good luck.

Someone please correct me if i`m wrong but i`m under the impression that in the settings for wireless and networks and then mobile networks that if you select home that it will only access service through the nearest verizon tower. I could be wrong... probably am... anyone?

One way to find where the tower is your connected to, is to use Open Signal Maps app... It will show you a map (Need GPS running) to see where the tower is. It is not exact, but it seems to work pretty well. I use it once in a while just for fun to see where the towers are when I am traveling.

Called Thursday and got a tech on the line. She had me change some setting. Said they were all wrong. Did not help. So Friday another tech called and said she was just updating me that they were working on it. Said to give them till sometime next week.

The part about someone saying to "give them until next week" is somewhat reassuring.

Maybe so. My phone has no connectivity now. My wife's phone works here at the house about half the time, while mine does not. So it looks like it should be fixable. One of the techs told me the Droid 2 and Droid X receiver is pretty much the same. I have the insurance on my phone so maybe they will want to replace it.

Hi everyone!

Great news!

On August 17, 2011, a new software was released and the 3G connectivity has been resolved with the update. It will be pushed out in batches with the Droid X users. Check out the software benefits here!

Not true - not true at all.....just doesn't do it as often. I have had the problem happen twice since I did the update on Tuesday August 16th  (when the update actually dropped via OTA). There are still issues with the phone that I'm sure will never be resolved (granted no phone will be truly perfect)

My problem of the call ending at 00 seconds has stopped since the patch came out.  However, I have noticed the 3G and wifi indicators going from blue to white during the day.  From what I can tell, it's just Google Talk/chat going offline.  But that shouldn't happen.

Still waiting for them to do something. My wife's Droid 2 has like 90% connection to the tower while mine hovers around 20% to zero.
