Droid2 google calendar synching problem

I recently purchased a new droid2. When purchasing in the store I linked it to my pre-existing google account, which at the time did not have a google calendar. I recently created a google calendar online in my pre-existing google account. This calendar will NOT synch with my droid2. When I go into "my accounts" it only gives me options to synch my contacts and gmail. There is no option to synch a calendar. I created a "dummy" account with a calendar and then added this account to my phone. When I did this, this new account had the option to synch a calendar (my old one still did not). I shared my calendar from my pre-esixting account with my dummy one and this was the only way I was able to get it to show up on my phone. When I deleted my dummy account from my phone the calendar disappeard and I was never given the option to synch a calendar with my original, pre-existing account. Why won't my droid 2 recognize that I have created a google calendar in my account already entered into my phone and provide me the option to synch it?? I don't want to keep a dummy account on my phone solely to have access to a "shared calendar".

I was finally able to talk to someone from verizon...not sure what happened but it may have been an issue with set up in the store. They had me take the battery out for about 10 seconds and when I re-started the "sync calendar" was an option.
