End of Life (EOL) also applies to manufacturing. Moto will stop making the X, but support will always be there via Verizon, Moto and forums like this one.
Software? That's a can of worms that gets people on ledges threatening to jump......
With the new generation of 4G phones coming later this spring and the newly propagating 4G network still in its infancy, I would have no problem buying a Droid X now.
I admit, I am reading and drooling thinking about the new phones and a faster network that are coming, but I concede that having to "settle" with my X for all of 2011 is not a bum deal.
If you can wait 6-12 months, wait. If you can't, you won't be sorry you bought an X now, if that is why you asked.

It just means that a new version of the Droid X is forthcoming. It has been discussed on done of the Android forums and discussion boards. It appears that the new Droid X will be called the Droid X2.
It also means that software development will slow down or stop on the current X pretty soon. And although I keep seeing that being said, we do see the occasional update trickle out to older devices, such as the recent update to the HTC Eris a few days ago.
So the current Droid X may be scheduled to be replaced, it was such a popular phone that I doubt support for it will be dropped like a
hot potato any time soon.
Just my thoughts,
Geri O
