Hi everyone. I am thinking about upgrading to the Droidx2. Wii all my contacts, settings and apps automatically move to the new phone when it is activated. Is this a good upgrade? I love my DroidX.
Thanks For Any Feedback,

If your contacts are backed up on Google, they will sync with the new phone when you log in the new phone to your google account. I don't know about the apps and settings since I choose to re-install apps and set up the phone from scratch when I restore it. I think that if you set your phone to "back up my data" under "settings/privacy", your apps and settings can be, well, backed up, but I don't know if this works when moving to a new phone. And I'm highly suspicious of Backup Manager, but others have used it successfully and can better advise you on that than I can.
About that Droid X2....I moved from a wonderful Droid X to a Droid X2 because of a scare with my X that turned out to be a false alarm. My X acted up, I couldn't do anything with it for a couple of hours, I ran to the Verizon store and buying the Droid X2 was my only immediate option (and it turned out that my X was fine, just went through a major hiccup that cleared itself up and has been working fine for my 20-year-old daughter ever since). The X2 is a good phone. I like mine and it's been good, after a twitchy start. But I don't think that it's a formidable upgrade from the X, unless you gotta have a brighter screen (that some say doesn't look good, but I like mine okay) and you want an X with a dual-core processor. Seriously, I would wait for a 4G phone like the Thunderbolt, or the forthcoming Droid Bionic, or Verizon's version of the Samsung Galaxy S II, assuming that it will be 4G. I think your money will be better spent by waiting (or going with the Thnderbolt now).

I upgraded to a Thunderbolt myself and I am happy with my device. There isn't 4G in my area that Verizon reports but at my job I pick up a strong 4g signal and it is fast, can't wait for it to come official here. In my opinion upgrading to a phone that wont be able to fully support network in a few months probally isn't the best decision.
Now as for data it should transfer fine, no issue transferring to TB from droid, apps may or may not, this is unknown on this but if they don't you can always just go to Market and get them again... you should be fun whatever directions you go.

I agree with Gerio, the Droid X2 really doesn't seem to be a upgrade from a Droid X...

I guess since this has come up, just how is that transfer of apps and data done, other than the 3rd party apps we've discussed? Can the apps and settings backed up by Google be transferred to a new phone? I suppose it's obvious that the settings can't be, now that I think about it (i.e. a Droid X's settings to a Thunderbolt), but how about the apps?
I'll probably continue to do it the old-fashioned tedious, but effective method I've been doing all along....

Best to start clean and only restore contact and appointments data to minimize the risk of issues.

With a stock unit you can not access the settings information on a device to back them up even with a 3rd party app because the OS restricts access to this info. All apps are stored under Google and Market /My Apps area so to restore them isn't a issue but you take a chance of restoring a unsupported app to the new device which can cause issues.... This is why the Market usually blocks unsupported devices from even seeing apps that has been verified as unsupported but the auto restore option doesn't take this in consideration.

Some of us have to restore old apps we've used to our new phone. For example, being a diabetic, I keep copies of my A1c, etc. one a diabetic records apps. On another apps, I keep my blood pressure/pulse readings. Then, when I go to see my doctor, I have all the information on my cell phone. Beats carrying a desktop, or even a laptop, computer around.

I think it will be a great upgrade. I have an X2 and am waiting for the Gingerbread update. I've been reading from a few of the people that just got it over the weekend that it is a great update so far, much less problematic than the GB update to the Droid X. I recommend that you get one.

I have an X and it's running wonderfully, and I really don't see much reason to "upgrade" (if you want to call it that) to the X2. I just don't see that much difference between the two phones. With LTE on the horizon and in many places already operational, if I was to upgrade I would get a 4G phone. But I don't have an upgrade coming until March of 2012.
So James, best of luck with whatever you decide to do,

Thank you for all the responses. The up coming phones do look better (4g ,front facing camera etc) I just hate to have to buy new car docks desk docks etc. Oh well I guess that is how it works.

Yeah, when I first saw the X2 and it was the same externally as the X, I was thrilled. But that was short lived when I found out that the X2 wouldn't be an LTE phone and have a FF camera.
I have the car doc and the desk doc and use them both daily. Oh well, maybe sometime in the future that'll happen. At least they're starting to get the charging cable standardized.
I'm actually hoping the dinara comes to fruition about the time I can upgrade next March. Not that I'm counting my chickens....... but I'm just "hoping". We do have LTE here in Honolulu now, so I'm ready for a 4G phone and a FF camera.
More to come..... (there always is)
