E-mail Issues

I cannot use exchange on my Droid because it is a true live connection (if I delete off phone it will delete off server and I am not allowed to delete from server).  So I use Pop3 which gives the option of "Leave on Server" on all e-mail.

So now the problem.

I have 2 accounts that I have to watch for work.  One for myself and one is a shared account that my department share.

I am only required to monitor the shared account about 1 week a month.  So to save battery, I set the Check Email option to Never (unless I am on call).  The other account checks every 15 to 30 minutes (depending on if I am at work or not).

Both accounts are set up POP3 connected to a corporate MS Exchange account

Problem 1) Very frequently I have to shut off my phone to get email to send/receive properly

Problem 2) The shared account sends/receives whether I want it to or not.  It is almost like the two accounts are connected somehow.  Sometimes, the account does not check, sometimes it does.

Problem3) It will receive messages that I have read and deleted - over and over and over again (see #1 for my resolution).

Question #1) for the touchdown - can you use with exchange and set to leave the e-mail on the server (when I delete from my phone)?

While I can understand your company's policy regarding the shared account, I can't quite figure why they would not allow you to delete your own emails.  Seems silly to me, but then again, I don't have all of the details.  However, surely they would let you "move" mail from your individual inbox into another folder, wouldn't they?  If so, why not use the Exchange capabilities instead of POP3.  I use Touchdown, and I'm kind of a pack rat when it comes to emails myself.  I only delete obvious spam and the like and I keep pretty much everything else.  But my inbox rarely has more than 10-20 emails in it because I move emails to sub-folders.  It's all still accessible, but not in the way.  With Touchdown, you can set up which folders will sync and, accordingly, which ones would be available to "move" mail to or from.

Unfortunately, you can only have one Exchange account on Touchdown at a time, so you'd either have to continue using POP3 for the shared account or set it up with the native Exchange client.

"Problem 1": I've heard of other people having this problem, but I have not had any issues with any of my email.  1 Exchange account, 1 Gmail account, 2 POP3 accounts (Yahoo & Live)

"Problem 2": Can't help you there either, although the email app may "reset" the check frequency when you open the app. I don't mean that it actually changes what you have set, just that it would reset the internal timer. Just a guess.

"Problem 3": Are you saying that you delete them from the phone and they reappear or are you deleting them from the server and they reappear?  If it's the phone, then the reason the messages show back up is because they WERE NOT deleted from the server.  Therefore, your phone thinks that they are new messages the next time it re-syncs.  That's a problem with POP3.  Does your company have IMAP setup on the Exchange server?  That could solve a lot of your problems with POP3.

"Question 1": You cannot (to the best of my knowledge) use any Exchange client and still leave messages on the server.  It's a "live" connection, like you said.
