I'm new to Droid2/  Is there any way to set up a notification (sound or blinking light) each time an e-mail arrives?

Yes. I would start with setting up a notification tone. Settings > sounds

Also check the settings in the email application. Open the email application then press menu and look for the settings options.

If you haven't already, you can download the full user manual from the Verizon Wireless website or from the manufacturer's website. Specific instructions for setting up notifications will be in the user manual.
