E-mail not working right

I have Comcast e-mail, and the Droid 1. I have had it about 1 year.... Since day 1, the e-mail has not worked right.

 

It does one or all of 3 things, depending on the phones mood: It either notifies me when no e-mail has actually come in, does not recieve e-mail at all with no notification or will notify 10 to 15 times in a row, again when nothing has actually shown up.

 

Not recieving e-mail at all with no notification is something relitively new. A verizon rep suggested I erase the account and re build it again. Did that, and no real change. I am getting e-mail better again, but I still get tons of false positives...

 

Are other people having this same issue?? Is there a fix? I was hoping that Android 2.1 and 2.2 would fix this, but no go. Is it a flaw with android or the droid or is it comcast??

 

I did use the fast e-mail set up. Could this be the problem? Should I do a full manual setup?

 

Any help is appreciated.
