Another newbie question. I set up a gmail account which is mandatory when setting the phone up for the first time. Now, what is the use and purpose of this account?? I have @yahoo for my email and I added the app from the market and works great.

 The gmail account is required since it is a Google phone and you can use it for any personal email needed.

And with Google, you can sync email, contacts, and calenders very easily between your Android phone and your computer. In fact, the computer acts as a back-up for your phone contacts

It might be a large undertaking for you, but you would probably like Gmail much better than Yahoo if you make the move
