Exchange brand new droid for HTC Incredible?

I just got the Moto droid on a new every two upgrade. I have had the phone about 4 days now. Today, I saw the news of the new HTC Incredible comming April 29th. So, with that, here is my question.
Verizon allows you 30 days to return a new phone and exchange it. You pay a restocking fee of like $35, but you are able to swap phones. Would I be able to do this with the new HTC Incredible? It will be well within 30 days if the April 29th date that they advertised holds.
Ive already sent off the Mail in rebate on the droid, would this affect anything? I realize I would likely have to pay a restocking fee as well, but that wouldnt be too bad. I reckon I may also have to pay the difference in price on the two phones, as I doubt the new HTC Incredible will be the same price for new every two.
Any info would be helpful on this. Thanks

Yeah, I talked to VZW Customer Service yesterday about the same thing.
Yes, you can trade in any phone within the first 30 days of your contract agreement, just pay the restock and the difference in phone price.
I'm not sure how the mail-in rebate will be affected. I'm assuming you'll get to keep whatever's coming to you.
I plan on switching to the Incredible this month as well since I'm still within 30 days.

If I remember correctly I was told that once you send in the rebate form, you can't return the phone. I would call CS to check to see what Verizon's policy is.

Very helpful reply M3lton, thanks for that. I will watch the release of the HTC Incredible very closely. If it misses the release date by more than 10 days, Ill be out of luck.

I took back the original BB storm last year within my 30 days and got the HTC touch pro2. I too had already mailed in the rebate form. What VZW will do is make you pay the $35 restocking fee plus the amount of the rebate if the new device you are getting is the same price as the droid. Either way the rebate amount will be added to the purchase price of your new device you are wanting to get.

AFguy is correct...
You'll be charged the rebate on top of the HTC Incredibles price.
example:
- $299 HTC Incredible Base
- $100 Rebate Charge for Droid
- $399 Total, plus taxes... etc
You'll then have to mail out the rebate for the HTC Incredible. Then in the mail.... you end up getting (2) $100 rebates that are both valid.
It's more out the door for getting the Incredible, but in the end... it all balances out.

Does anyone know if you bought a phone online and wanted to do an exchange, do you have to Fed Ex it back and do it that way or can it be exchanged in a store?

I had bought mine online and was able to exchange in store. Just take your receipt. You will get a refund for the amount you paid online for the phone, not the sale price in the store.

You will be credited the NET price for the phone you return. That's the list price minus any rebates, etc.

Do you think this exchange is worth it? Unfortunately, I only have until the 24th to return my Droid and wait for the Incredible. I wish they would release pricing. One of the rumors I saw a couple of weeks ago was that the Incredible would not be eligible for upgrade pricing (meaning no $100 off), though I don't know if this is true.
Hmm...should I, shouldn't I.

It's an exchange, not an upgrade. If you are exchanging you shouldnt be chargedthe price of the phone, so I think youre wrong here. What you pay is a $35 restocking fee, Plus the rebate amount so:
$35 Restocking fee
$100 Rebate charge from the droid
$20 for the price difference (The droid was 179.99 for me.)
Total: $155

Ugh, yeah... your right.. <duh>. You'll be creditied instantally the price of the returned phone. However, if you wait the 3 days (to avoid the $35 restocking fee) you'll prob end up with the $179 being sent to you as a cash card though.
Hey, it would have been a nice surprise going into Verizon with $400 and leaving with most in your pocket still!

You may be charged for the Droid rebate or you may just not get a rebate for the Incredible. Maybe both and then well I hope you haven't spent the rebate yet. It shouldn't be too complicated. Buy it online and avoid all that rebate stuff. That is my solution.

I called today to find out the best way for me to exhange my Eris for the Incredible. The CS rep I spoke to said the best way is to return the Eris to the store on 4/29 and do the exchange. This is on a line I just added specifically to get the Eris, and I don't think I could return it now, and wait until 4/29 and then get the Incredible...I'll be stuck with the re-stock fee...but whatever! I was hoping I could ship the Eris back (I ordered it online), but the CS rep said there wasn't enough time to really do that and it was making it more complicated than it had to be. The 29th is still within my 30-day window, so no biggie there.
I already have permission from my boss to go over to Verizon when the store opens!! I have a cool boss!!
My question though is this...what should I do to the phone before I return it? Just delete the apps I put on it and my contacts?? And then put everything back in the box??

Info and pricing are official - http://phones.verizonwireless.com/htc/incredible/
On Edit: sorry, no pricing on that site, but several web sites say it will be $199 with a new two-year contract or if you renew your contract for two-years (just like other smartphones).
