This may seem like a dumb question to some, but here goes. I have had my Droid 2 for about a week. I have seen people recommend to not facebook as an account on the phone, but to download the facebook app. I haven't added facebook to my phone, yet. My question is do I need to delete something first or just go ahead and get the app.

The reason people say not to add Facebook as an account is because it will add all of your "friends" as contacts to your phone, which is mighty inconvenient. You can download the facebook for android app without setting up the account on your phone.
Those recommendations are accurate. I'd made the mistake of adding my Facebook account first and then added my corporate email. My contacts were a mess: good job with Facebook ones; terrible job with my more important corporate ones. I had to wipe the phone and switch to the $20 Touchdown application. Bottom line, get the Facebook app. And there would be nothing to delete beforehand.
Yes, just download the Facebook app... IMO, the best Facebook app is AndroidBook, you can get it on the Market.
