My wife is currently a Verizon customer not under contract. She has no desire to get a smartphone.
I will be a new Verizon customer when I switch service providers and purchase the Droid.
Is is possible for us to do a family plan so that we share the minutes and just tack on the extra $30 for the Droid's data plan?

I believe you need a nation wide voice plan. The regional plans don't you let add data. If you pick a family plan that's nationwide you should be able to put both her phone and your droid and add the 29.99 data plan to just your phone.

I pre-ordered the Droid at Best Buy. Any idea if they'd be able to handle putting this plan together?

I don't know what capabilities Best Buy has to set up plans. Honestly buying on the Verizon website is the best way to go. You can see what you are setting up you get the same price and you don't have to pay sales tax and overnight shipping is free I believe.

overnight is only free if you use the promo code: FREEOVERNT

yeah.. my best buy was able to port my number from sprint, set up the phone on my existing verizon plan (changing to family) and then return the sprint phone.. they're very good.
