Fed Up with my Droid X

Hello All

My 2nd replacement used Droid X arrived today.   Mine locked up on me right out of the box.  I had remove the battery and put it back in.   Not a huge deal if you aren't using an Otter case as I am.  In that case it becomes a huge {word filter avoidance}

What I don't understand is why can't they get this right.   Here I am on my 3rd droid x and I continue to have the same issues as before.    The most infuriating has to be the camera ( I have replaced the 16 gb microSD card at my own expense since the first one started to refuse to take writes.   I knew better than to take the 16 gb card to verizon because it would have been like pulling teeth to them to swap it.) and the way it corrupts it's data files for video and stills.    It may play the file back and then when trying to play it again later it gives the old "this file cannot be displayed or played" message.

I've noticed that other folks on other android forums have had the same issue with their Verizion droid x and they got different phones from Verizon.

I asked for this was told no by the customer service lady.  She was polite though and I know it isn't her fault.

I hate AT&T wireless  but I guess that's where I'm headed.

I have had a few frustrations lately but from what I have read that the issue you have sounds like a device issues for you and on that note I do not see transfer carrier would resolve anything..  You are having device issue not a carrier or service issue

Thanks for your response.

I figured it was device dependent.  But Verizon giving the same phone with the same GB OS over and over having the same problems is a waste of time.

My biggest concern is that  when the warranty is up this December I will be out of luck.

They're likely hoping that by giving me the same phone model with the same issue over that they will be able to stall me until the warranty is over at which point I will be forced to buy another phone.

Not a good way to do business.

I had to do the same thing with my SD card - it up and corrupted as soon as my phone was updated to GB and Verizon REFUSED, actually laughed at me, about replacing it saying it wasn't their responsibility. Atleast I found a class 10 16GB SD at a decent price to replace it with, but that card has had problems 3 seperate times since August where the card had to be reformatted and I lost any and all pictures I had on it, thankfully nothing important.

VZW has utterly failed with how they respond to customers with the Droid X. Especially considering the phones that they send out as replacement are not truly refurbished but rather wiped and put back into circulation, essentially giving the problem that the phone was returned for into the hands of another unsuspecting user, thus killing any type of relief the customer had by inheriting someone elses problem. Verizon can give you another phone...that's not a problem, they just don't want to. VZW has changed considerably in the past 2 years. I left in 2009 for AT&T to get an iPhone and then came back in November 2010 to get a Droid X. Before I left in '09, they would bend over backwards to take care of their customers. Now, they pretty much have the attitude of 'oh well not our problem'.

My DX rocked all the way up until they gave us Gingerbread and then things went down the toilet. Forums both here and elsewhere on the internet are ripe with problems that have arisen AFTER the phone was updated from Froyo to Gingerbread. I've reset my droid X multiple times and have problems with it even before any apps go back onto the phone, which tells me it is NOT a problem with an app like alot of people keep saying it is. The problem is rather with the OS they have given us, most likely Blur since there are many fans of that UI at all, so whatever Moto has done to 'modify' the OS, as well as any tweeks that VZW made to it as well, have ruined an otherwise great phone.

I know I will NEVER own another Motorola phone again....

I pretty much figured the whole "certified" thing was **bleep**.

But hey it's a Motorola product.    Sooner or later folks buying them will start to pick up on how bad they are and will quit buying them.

And can you believe the Razor is using GB and has a non-removeable battery?    That's gonna be great for unfortunate purchasers of those devices.

I hope Google fixes Motorola's phones when they finalize their purchase.

HTC and Samsung are now in my sites.   I really don't want any more Apple products.

There are far better options for your Droid X OS that eliminate Motoblur and Verizon bloatware and allow your Droid X to run smoothly.  Unfortunately VZW moderators and some of the forum members frown upon those options being discussed here.  I will tell you that I was ready to jetison my DX until I started looking at options to improve its usability.  Now my DX is rock solid running on a customized OS.  However, it WILL void your warranty.  In my case, the warranty expired long ago.  Check out XDA Developers if you need help.

It is frowned upon per the community's Terms of Service. You can read them here. http://community.vzw.com/t5/Terms-of-Service/Verizon-Community-Terms-of-Service/td-p/2

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

I'm well aware of the rules, which is why I didn't use the dreaded "R" word.  However, the simple fact is the DX runs better on modded OS's than it does on VZ/Motoblur Gingerbread.  There are 3 DX's in my house and all of the common Gingerbread problems ceased when they were reloaded with a properly functioning OS.  People come to this forum for help and there are some great members like Cody and Wildman who are VERY helpful and I appreciate their efforts, but the fact is, there are ways to make the DX work flawlessly.  If VZ/Motorola are unwilling or unable to fix the problems that so many are experiencing, they at least need to allow users to be steered toward the greater Android community where solutions exist.  I love my DX...now.

All I really want is a phone that works.    Yes I know it's a computer and all computers have some kind of issue.

But really that's no excuse.   My phone had turned off twice this evening.   I have already reset it to factory settings and it still powers off randomly.

My warranty is up next month.   It really lookls like VZW is trying stall until the warranty period is over and then it will be my problem, no theirs.

The fact that I have had  the same issue with  3 droid X's is ridiculous.   Why can't I get another phone that doesn't  have these issues.  Mine obviously isn't working  properly.   Corrupting video and pictures as well as turning off or locking up isn't suppoed to be a feature.

It looks like VZW will just keep giving me the same phone model over and over even though it is known to have issues.

Computer OEMs hire (former) hackers. Maybe companies like Moto should hire some of these "rogue" code writers. The difference being hacking is illegal, "r-wording" a phone isn't.
