I've been reading here for a while but I guess I need to vent a bit.
I have been a Verizon customer dating back until I was in high school. I went in to a corp. store 8/8 to get a new phone because my old phone, a Pantech smartphone that was mostly junk, fell in the lake. The rep. knew I was getting a phone because my current one was dead.
I had read about the Droid X, Incredible, etc. and I decided on the Droid X. At no time during the selling process did she tell me that they didn't have any of them. She told me as I was paying. Credit card in hand. I couldn't believe it. Doesn't it makes sense that she would tell me that right away knowing that I was there to replace a phone that was dead?
No worries, she says, you'll have it in less than a week. I'll ship overnight for free.
Fine, ok. I was miffed to be without a phone for 5-7 days but I took the hard-sell of the X. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying I was sold something I didn't want - I WANT the phone (like crazy)...but I think she knew that so she held off on telling me they didn't have any until I had decided.
I leave the store sad and feeling a little cheated.
Time ticks by. I pass the time reading online X reviews and forums - especially here - which is where I learn of the long wait for the first time. So I call Verizon.
"She should never have told you 'less than a week'. The official time is 'receive by 8/23'."
I call back again a couple days later.
"New time is 'Ship by 8/25'". (note change from 'receive by' to 'ship by')
Last night "Ship by 8/28".
This morning "Ship by 8/31".
Sigh. I am more sad than angry - but I feel cheated. I understand being short on supply but this should have been handled better.
Worst part?
Two days into being phoneless I miss a barrage of calls and texts from extended family that my grandfather is in the hospital in the ICU. He is still in the hospital today, a week later, and I didn't find out about it until yesterday - when one of my family members, irritated that I hadn't called or responded to find out how he was doing, actually called my employer's corporate main line and asked for me.
I hate not having a phone - any phone.

This is just unacceptable. No way this can be justified.
I'm tired of reading these pity party comments. YOU purchased the phone and YOU knew it wasn't available right away. Everyone not living under a rock knows these phones are selling like hot cakes and are out of stock. Man up and take some personal responsibility.

I have to admit I was surprised the email was from Motorola and not Verizon. It is from custsvc@motorola.com.

I was hoping to have it ship a week early. My old BB Storm 1 sucks and the screen & phone are on the fritz. Need my replacement! Impatient to say the least.

I ordered the 9th and was told a week at the most by the in-store rep. I was also told by a phone CSR that I would have it Monday 8/16. When I called yesterday, I was told it should ship by the 25th. When I said I was upset by the amount of time it was taking to ship I was told that VZW "would be happy to cancel my order."
...Really Verizon?
There is no reason they could not be shipping orders by date placed rather than distribution center location (if that is even the factor involved).
This is just another case of "We don't care.... We don't have to... We're the phone company!"
This phone better be able to cook me breakfast in the morning... that might make it worth the wait.
Ordered 8/12 around 9:00 PM, actually entered into system around 10:30 PM, no date on shipment though... I am seriously annoyed though, as I ordered the phone online as some of my friends in the Northeast, and they got their phones yesterday; I have yet to receive even a shipping notification. This is pretty poor customer service Verizon; People up in the Northeast are getting their phones much quicker than those of us here in the Southeast.

I ordered my X on 8/13 (in store) and was told that it would be at my door within the week. Checked the forums today only to realize that this is so not the case. Called CSR and was told that it may ship by 8/31. Worst thing? I was poking around Best Buy and they have several of them. That I can't purchase. Evidently, I cannot cancel my order for this phantasmic phone that I may not see for another two weeks.
And, I am sorry CSR rep but, two weeks "really is that long."
I would have appreciated and honest time frame at the point of sale so I could decide if waiting this long is feasible (which it isn't but I've not much of a choice now).

My phone came 8/18 around 430pm i got it the 18th when i orderd it the 7th. In my case when i orderd it form the store the guy told me i would have it by the 19th (in alot of cases the date in store they tell you to get you to signup up for a new contraction or upgrade is wrong) but mines was right got it the 18th when my shipping date said the 25th it shipped 9 days days early!! shipped on the 16th got it the 18th
Ordered Friday 8/6/2010 ~2:00 PM was told by the customer service rep @ Verizon customer service that it would ship on Monday 8/9/2010 at the latest. When it didn’t show I called & was informed of the stock situation, much to my surprise!
I found this thread, then called CS & asked why some are receiving their phones even though earlier orders go un-filled. The "supervisor" I spoke with indicated that those who claimed to have received their phones must be lying because Verizon would never ship out of turn....
Needless to say, I am off-the-charts angry and trying to resist strong urge to terminate not only my relationship but also my company’s business with Verizon.
Update: It is now 8-19-2010 6:48 AM and no answers or information.
I order the Droid X in store on 8/14, paid for it too. They wouldn't be able to process it until 8/15, due to it being a Sunday. Understandable. They also told me that it would be 1-2 weeks before I would get it, so it would ship around 8/31. I can't believe it's taking 2 weeks for them to ship peoples orders.
I called CSR today and asked if my order was processed because I never received an email. They told me that its at the warehouse and should be shipped 8/30 and no later than 8/30. So now I can just play the waiting game.
The Droid X better be worth the two week wait!

That just makes no sense. Why not send the manual with the phone? Almost like they're trying to tease people.
I knew when I purchased it that I would be waiting for it a while. I thought, "Ive had this terrible phone (HTC TP2) for a year now, whats a couple more weeks."

I know what you mean... it does take a lot to not keep checking on the phone.... mine ships on the 31st... I knew that when I ordered but I find myself checking to see if the phone will ship faster...
I ordered my Droid X online at 3:30 pm, on 7/28/10 and the phone was delivered by FedEx on 8/4/10 @ 1:30 p.m. We I got the phone I had to send it back to Verizon because it was defective. I was told that I would have to close out the first order before I could generate a new one. Needless to say, I was highly upset and thought about not getting the phone, but after having it in my hands and playing with in for a few minutes, I realized that I really wanted this phone. Therefore, I ordered a new one through customer service on August 7 at 8:00 p.m. Even, with my issue of the defective phone, I too had to go to the back of the line and wait all over again and was told that it should ship by the 25th. I was not happy with that answer and after raising all kinds of HECK about this, Verizon will be compensating me in another way.
But here I sit waiting just like the rest of you and WOOOOOO!!! TODAY I GOT MY SHIPPING NOTICE. IT WILL BE HERE TOMORROW.
I AM DOING THE HAPPY DANCE AND PROBABLY WON’T SLEEP AT ALL TONIGHT.

I, too, received my shipping notification on Aug. 19th (Thursday), with a delivery date of Aug. 23rd (Monday). I also opted for the free 2-day shipping. Had the phone been shipped on Wednesday, I would most likely have it on Friday. However, FedEx does not make deliveries on weekends. So....my phone is picked up on Thursday.....the first of the 2 days is Friday. It's currently in New Jersey, headed for Virginia. The second day of the 2 days....is Monday, because they don't delivery on Saturdays or Sundays.
The 2-day shipping method is correct for me, but it just falls within a weekend. If anyone's phone happens to get picked up by FedEx on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday....and have 2-day shipping...you should see the phone on Friday.
On a side note, I've never understood by companies like FedEx and UPS do not deliver on weekends. People are home on weekends, and will be there to sign for packages. They could at least deliver on Saturdays. Both companies compete against each other and claim to have the fastest shipping speed over the other......yet weekends are out.
I have to assume that the FedEx and UPS facilities, where packages are routed to for different regions, are all closed on weekends. Maybe their workforce is strictly M-F. That would explain no deliveries on weekends. Just sucks though. Some people can't be home to sign for a package during the weekdays. It would be a little more convenient for the country as a whole if they delivered Monday-Saturday. Sunday is a day of rest (biblically speaking).....and that's fine.

Well, finally got my tracking number!
Ordered in store 8/8. Scheduled for delivery 8/23.
What stinks is that it is already in my local FedEx facility as of last night - but just too late to go out.
It is pretty clear, based on the pattern the last two weeks, that they send these out in batches rather than on an as-complete basis.
Ugghh!!!! So impatient!!! Was told by an internet sales supervisor that the orders placed 8/4 would probably be filled either this saturday 8/21, or 8/23, then the orders place 8/5,6, & 7 would probably go out 8/24, the so on & so forth. I think I'm the most impatient person in the world!! I CANNOT wait to get this phone!! I've already ordered & received 2 covers ordered from amazon.com. they look so pretty, LOL, but would look even better wrapped around my new phone!!

I can't even get info at all about my order online. I ordered on 8/16 in store. I have the order number and the store number (which it asks for) but every time I try to check on the status it just says We are experiencing technical difficulties, please check back later. I have cleared my cookies and my cache and it still says that so either I am doing something wrong or something with their order status page is messed up. I have called and there are no changes in my status as of this morning.
Anyone else getting this message when they try to get your order status online?

I am assuming that we are probably going to get ours from the Memphis area since it is the only one that I keep hearing about that is close to us. Considering someone else who ordered on the 13th got her confirmation today and delivery on Wednesday out of Memphis...hopefully you will get yours tomorrow and have it by Thursday. Did anyone from Texas order online around 08/16? I am starting to get very upset reading that people who ordered before or on the same day as me and they are receivng shipping info. This sucks! Don't get me wrong, I am happy for the people that are getting their phones, but unhappy for the way that Verizon is handling the situation.
I didn't get the official shipping notification from FedEx...I just got the word from the customer service rep that it is marked as being shipped on Wednesday the 25th. So while I did order mine on the 16th, I don't have the FedEx number yet. Just confirmation from Verizon that it is shipping out and I wouldn't have known that if my husband didn't call.
Give them a call and find out what is going on. They may have similar information for you.

Wait...you are upset that people who ordered before you got their shipping information before you?
How does that make sense?
I ordered mine on 8/8 and got it yesterday. Expect two weeks. Everyone else is.
Whoops, sorry, that was supposed to be "ordered AFTER me". I have seen several examples of People that ordered 08/16, 08/17, or 08/18 already receiving shipping notices or actually receiving their phone. So...Yes, I am very upset that people who ordered after I ordered are getting their phones. Verizon didn't take any time at all taking my money out of my account for a phone that hasn't shipped yet, but they are in no hurry to fulfill orders in order. I am just getting cranky and wish I had my dang phone already.
I odered mine in-store on 8-10 at 15:29 PST in Phoenix. I have not received any shipping notifications yet and have no idea when mine is coming. I have not called CS.
UPDATE: Got tracking number 8/24/2010; expected to arrive 8/26/2010.
Hoping it arrives 8/25 since FEDEX already has it in their system and it is in transit.

It finally made it's way out of Memphis at 3:15pm yesterday. I just noticed that there is a delivery exception since it didn't get to my local facility before the delivery truck left May have to call FedEx to see if I can pick it up after work.

just wanted to give you guys an update. my phone is sitting 5 minutes away from me in the fedex facility. They received it very early this morning and could have delivered it today but apparently felt the need to torture me a little longer...lol. They are holding it because it was not scheduled for delivery today...lol. I should have it tomorrow before 7pm. For those of you who will not be home (like me), the fedex rep says if it is an inderct signature, you can leave a note asking them to leave it. make sure to include your tracking number and sign and date the note. i will update once i have my X in my hand...

Haven't heard a thing since. When I ordered, it said online that it would ship by 8/30/10
I wouldn't have thought much about it, but, when I see here that people who ordered it after me are receiving it before me, I started to wonder what's going on. So I called Verizon CS to see if they had a tracking number. They don't. They simply repeated that their information shows that it will go out on 8/30/10. I just hope it goes out on the 30th.
