First time charging the BIONIC, can you tell if it's fully charged?

To quote from the manual, "It's important to fully charge the battery before turning on you smart phone."

However, I don't see a way to tell if the phone is fully charged.

So, trying to follow the instructions, what I've done is

Called to activate the 4g service

Inserted the 4g sim card

Inserted the battery

Put the cover on

Plugged it in to charge.

At first, a battery indicator came up showing that the batter was 40% charged.  But, then the screen went blank.  I didn't notice if the screen said anything else.  The 40% indicator was large, covering the display area.

Now it's just sitting there, totally dark.  There is no light on anywhere on the phone.

I called customer support, but after looking into it (ther person admitted that they were looking at the manual for the first time), their best guess was that there was supposed to be an indicator light blinking somewhere.

I agree with that, and have little doubt that when the phone is on, there are indicator lights, but now, the first time charging it, there is no indicator light blinking.  I can see several things above the Mororola logo, but they are all just dark / off.

The other comment that the support person made was that if it was 40% charged, it would probably be fully charged in about 1 hour.  I'm waiting longer than that, but was wondering if anyone had any idea if there actually is an indicator.

Yes, a battery full alert can be turned on, just as the X and X2. Go to settings/sounds and scroll down to the notification area. Check the box by "Battery Full".

Also, I use and really like the Circle Battery widget, available in the App Market. It's a battery gauge widget, not an app, so if you decide to try it, you'll long-press on a screen and scroll through the widgets. It doesn't open as an app does.

Unless something is very different, I would think that the LED would be solid orange while charging and turn solid green when the charge is completed.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

And unless some things have changed on Bionic since the X.  U should be able to tap the power button if your Bionic is off an it should show the Battery level as for showing a led while charging mine has'nt done this since eclair an unless i get a app like Lightflow wich to me is'nt worth spit. Now i have notice that when it does finish since the last update it hollars droid when its done an when the X is power is on.  B33

Hey Geri since you still have an X you can still turn that Notification Led on for the Battery Can't ya. I use to have it back with eclair but did'nt it go away with fro-yo or am missing something. :smileyvery-happy:  Heck i can't remember back that far my saddle is slippin alittle in my old age. :smileywink:

Yes, and in the X2 as well, as I found out at 3:45am the first night I had it. I'm certain I did not turn it on in the sounds, but apparently it was turned on somehow by default. And it went off at that time while I was asleep, singing "DROOOIIIIDDDD!!!"  as only I could teach it (At least it hasn't learned to make nasty responses yet...:smileyvery-happy:). Quite jarring, actually...

So if you really want to be notified of a fully charged battery..."There ya go.."

Geri O

PS in all of the Droids I've loved before (ooh, begone, Willie Nelson!), the notification light has never behaved in the manner it has been described. My girlfriend's X blinks green while it is charging and will stay a solid green once it's fully charged. The X2 wil turn a solid green when it's charged. And my daughter's X, I can't tell, since it just brings strange boys over and asks me for money and the keys to my truck (yeah, that's the kinda of day it was..:smileyvery-happy:)

Ahh, who wouldn't want to be me...:smileywink:

You Know my big brother had a solution to that Geri. He would tease the Boyfriends coming over he'd just tell em you see that Shot Gun hanging over the mantle its for one's that ask me dumb questions like that. :smileyvery-happy:  they did'nt stay long. they got there butts out of there quick.

Update: i change my saying alittle Geri.  by saying tease because he'd do this an then laugh his butt off after they'd leave the house.

My X may be Old. But its as good as Gold! :smileywink:

Ran into the same conundrum today with my new Bionic.  No LED or anything, and I didn't want to touch the power button to turn it on.  But I did anyway, and the earlier post is correct - a quick push of the power button will display the charge percentage, and then turn back off.

i learned today when its off there is a light and if on there is the typical lightningbolt. also i know  on droid x if its off there is a battery that appears with the persentage of how full it is but  i think its that way on this phone too.
