Froyo 3G Issue?

I just finished reading 2 pages of users experiencing 3G issues after updating to 2.2 over at androidforums dot com (click here). Is anyone here experiencing 3G problems? I looked around and didn't find this in the forums.

Anyway, users are reporting that the 3G radio is not turning on after rebooting. I began experiencing this issue last night, and the problem has continued today. If I reboot the phone, it will work again -- until I reboot again. It seems to be a software issue with Froyo, but some think it's a problem with VZ's towers.

I tried reset, hard reset, and factory reset. None have corrected the problem, however, some mention that toggling the airplane mode fixes the problem temporarily in order to avoid a hard reset. That's fine, but I would like to know if there is a real fix that doesn't require me "working around" a software/network problem. Others mention calling *228 with temporary success, but nothing that actually resolves the issue beyond the next reboot.

I don't want to call VZ customer service if I'm going to have to wait 30 minutes to talk with a tech. It seems it might take that long with all of the Froyo issues. I also don't want to just get a refurb if the same issue will show up again (as the androidforum suggests is already happening).

Any news? thoughts? fixes

I have had the same issue with 3G, happened to me yesterday.  My 3G was not connecting.  I was in a place that had WiFi access so I just turned it on, when I got home I tried the 3G again, still nothing, so I rebooted my phone and it seemed to fix the problem.  So far today I have not had the issue.

Yeah I had this issue with 3g yesterday, normally no problems in the area.I was at. Also I put my phone in airplane mode at work, for a few hours and when I tapped to remove airplane mode, it showed that airplane mode was disabled, but when I locked and then later unlocked my phone o was still showing airplane mode able bit with out the light highlited, but no issues at all today, I.shut my phone off and back on and no problems.

i have the same problem. someone said turning the airplane mode on and off seems to fix that problem without having to do another reboot but ive tried that and seems to freeze up the phone and when you reboot while its trying to turn on airplane mode, when it boots back up then it automatically turns it on which is weird. ive tried searching everywhere a fix and i don't really wanna do a custom rom just to fix that radio problem with it. so call VZ is the only other way or htc anyways ill check into this and hopefully someone finds a cure.

Although I have seen the issue, it is rare. I hold the power button till I get the option screen. I turn off Mobile Network, then turn it back on.

If it's rare, why are there so many talking about it at android forums? Or do you mean it's rare on YOUR phone?

And how many DROID'S have been sold out of the maybe 250 posts (ACROSS ALL BOARDS) complaining about it?  1-3 million? Forums are made for complaining not saying all is working fine.

Y'all see a complaint from someone and immediately it is a BUG and poorly written program, EVERYONE HAS THE ISSUE. It is called the placebo effect.

Yes phones do crazy things, it is sensitive electronic device.

I could say the same about your reply. How many customers are just calling VZ? How many are reading these things, but never say anything? I'm not saying it's as widespread as the iPhone antenna issue, but I do think that glitches and other problems have popped up with DIncs after the 2.2 update. Mine was operating fine, I get the update, and now it's not. I'm not complaining. I'm just wondering. It's not a placebo effect for me, but thanks anyway for your brainy psychoanalysis.

The 2.2 update ruined my phone.  The new native apps are killing the battery life.  VZ navigator, amazon mp3, city id, and skype mobile are constantly running.  The phone can't even make it 7hrs on one charge after I make 3 texts and have a one minute phone call.

My phone was great with 2.1 and now it's as good as a paper weight if I can't use it when I need it.

Fix this verizon...I plan on calling VZ and telling them 2.2 is garbage and I encourage all of you to let your voice be heard.  Down with 2.2.

Hi andersnj,

So have you experienced 3G issues with your 2.2 upgrade? Because you didn't say anything about it in your complaint. I opened this thread to discuss, find out some info about, and see if there is anything I can do to correct the 3G radio problem, which started on my DInc after upgrading to Froyo. If you have the same issue, let us know; but if you don't, maybe post instead on a separate thread related to your topic.

Thanks!

I've had the same 3G connectivity issues as well.  What seemed to work for me was turning the radio(s) off then on again, i.e. putting it in airplane mode then off.  After doing this 3G signal and data worked again.  I know this is an issue that we shouldn't have and I believe that complaining to VZW and HTC may induce a future update, but this should help in the meantime.  I plan to send HTC a support e-mail telling them about the problem (and others...froyo just seems to be a bit flaky to me).

I have a follow up for this question also: Users at android forums say the "mobile network" gets stuck on "turning on" the 3G radio upon start-up occasionally, since the 2.2 update. Has this problem occurred on any of your DIncs? It occurred on mine, and I wasn't able to use airplane mode to work around it. Like others, the radio issue seems to occur every other time the phone is rebooted.

I had no issue with the radio until tonight. Now for the life of me I can not get it to come back on. So I did the hard reset. WHAT A MISTAKE THAT WAS! That cleared all my phones settings. Even after reactivation the settings were not what they should be.

SID was 2074 when I know it is 21

My MDN is now  a 4 digit number

My MIN is a 4 digit number

AAARRGGHH

But aint gonna lose sleep over it. I will find a pay phone and call tomorrow to get it back up and running.

I am also having this problem.  The only thing that seems to work is to turn Airplane mode on and off.  This really needs to be fixed.  I shouldn't have to do this every time I restart my phone.

I'm concerned this issue will continue for a while, since we seem to be able to get the 3G radio to function after a workaround. It would be nice if VZ would address this, and send a fix quickly, because the 3G network is what makes the Incredible so fun. It's hard to be happy about my phone and service -- even though my DInc is just three weeks old -- if it doesn't work like it's brand new!

Here's to hoping VZ / Google / HTC / You figures out what's up!

I've had my data connection completely drop out in spots where it never did before.  I was trying to re-download my apps after doing a factory reset with the 2.2 update already downloaded.  I was at my brother's house and my data kept stopping.  It was really irritating.  While the signal meter appears to show stronger signal with the 2.2 update, it doesn't appear all that stable.  It would drop away, then slowly come back, etc.  That happens the most when I go to unlock the phone and my homescreen appears.  The signal would show full (locked) then after unlock, it goes down and may or may not go back up to where it was.  What is up with that?  It appears to me that the Incredible has been a a damned blunder.  In short, its an Incredible device plagued by non-stop issues.  I'm on my 4th Incredible already and if this doesn't start shaping up soon, VZ will be hearing from me....again.

I'll describe my specific issue I was experiencing. After the 2.2 update, my 3G radio would get stuck in the process of "turning on" after a restart, every other time. It wouldn't happen every time, rather every other time. It's easy to solve the problem, at least for now. I just restart it once more, and since, I haven't restarted the phone at all. I'm curious, and I would like to test the glitch on my phone again, but I also don't want to deal with it not working.

Anyway, I told a VZW representative that I would take the phone in to a tech if the issue happens again at the next restart. But for now, I can live without turning the phone off and on. Thanks for the feedback guys; it helped me gauge whether the issue was simply my phone, or something that others are having problems with.

Mine does the same thing.  I am beginning to think that my TIKL (touch to talk) app is not working sometimes because my 3g isn't active when people try to get ahold of me.

This needs to be fixed, and soon...many people complaining of it..and I don't believe this should wait until a large software update...needs to be soon.

Hybrid PRL's only works if you were an Alltel customer who switched to a Verizon plan and lost connectivity The PRL places Alltel towers as number one on the PRL list and Verizon towers 2nd

This is an issue with the phone as it happens all over the country, with Alltel and Verizon plan holders.

Now the SID I feel is an important point. But we rarely know when an area is combined. I called tech support on another issue and they asked what SID I had, it was still the old Alltel SID. And I learned you can use any Verizon SID you want as tech support has given me about 5 to choose from. 2 digit , to 5 digit ones.

DInc X 110,

I have not experienced issues since the 11/08 update. To answer your question about service area, I don't think so. I live in a major metro area.

Cheers,
