GMail no longer syncs on my droid x

I have been using my droid x for about 4 weeks now and a couple of days back my GMail will not sync.  It keeps showing me mails form my last sync that was 2 days back.  So after reading on forums with similar data, I checked my sync settings and cleared data & cache and did a manual sync.

Now it shows me a message on the header saying "Waiting for sync" and my screen shows  a message "Your email will appear shortly" Its been like this for almost 24 hours now.

Anyone experienced a similar issue, please help.

It sounds you like you may have turned sync off. The easiest way to turn it back on is to add the "Power Widget" (stock android widget) and turn on the two opposing arrows.

Try these steps.
From the Home Screen, press the  Home button, then press  Menu .
Select Settings.
Select Applications, then Manage applications.
Select Gmail.
Then select Clear data. ( Note this will clear settings and emails on the device.)
Answer OK when prompted.
Then  restart  the device,  by pressing and holding the Power Key, then select Power off. Press and hold the Power Key  to power on the device.
Your device will then re-sync with the  Gmail server after restarting (this may take several minutes).

Update the PRL by dialing *228 send and option 2.  Verify that all sync settings are correct.
