Get Droid now, or wait another month to see if HTC Passion comes out?

Been waiting patiently before going out and getting the Droid, because I wanted to wait and see what all problems folks had with it, etc....so I've been diligently reading this forum for a while now.....

Made the "mistake" of playing with the Droid for a while at Best Buy last night (WOW!!!! I must say the Droid is so awesome!!!)....the one I played with had no camera issues whatsoever...focused very fast and always gave me the green line lines....and the pics looked very sharp after reviewing them.....I guess the camera issue plaguing some is hit or miss?

Now I want the Droid SO BAD....and yet I am SO TORN on whether to go buy it today.....or keep waiting.....because if there is any truth at all to the rumor of an HTC Passion coming to Verizon by the end of the year with a 4.3" screen, 1Ghz processor, Android 2.0, etc.....I will kick myself so hard if I get the Droid now and then the Passion comes out after my 30 day return window.....

Those of you who have the Droid now.....please talk me into why I should not wait on a rumored Passion so I can make a final decision to buy the Droid today or not!

If you can, hold off until next weekend.  (Just one week!)  I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on something next Monday because that will put my 30 days at Dec 22 which should be enough time to cover any potential release of the rumored Passion.  Hopefully there will be more information in the next 7 days.  Good luck!

Smart idea....thanks!  Surely if something is going to be released, we will know about it by Dec 22nd.....ok then, holding off until next weekend.....thanks for keeping my feet on the ground! ha ha

Im in the same boat you are in.Want the Eris over the Droid but want the passion over the Eris.

 Just so many problems with the Moto droid I have been reading about and many people not happy on Phandroid site.

 I want the Passion and have been reading and researching it and Yes it is real and will be out soon.

 Just not exercising patience very well at the moment

 Is it also true that the return ability goes up after tomorrow and is extended by verizon based on the Holliday schedule?

I just picked up the Eris yesterday.   I figure that Verizon won't be releasing much after the 2nd week of Dec and I needed a new phone.  If the Passion does come out I'll exhange it.  If not, I'm pretty happy with the Eris.

Sounds like  a plan and if that is true about Holiday returns being accepted from Nov.15-January.I think I might jump for the Eris my self.It was the phone I had my eye set on till the passion rumor and info.

I have the Droid which I got on the 9th.  This phone is so-so, IMO.  I'm not in love with it. Camera issues among other things and the UI is brutal.  I could use it but for all the $$$, I should LOVE it like others do.  I am considering going in and pushing to get another Droid to resolve the camera issue or getting an Eris for now and then at the last minute of my 30 days.  My question is if I get another brand phone today, will my 30 days start at the new date or am I still starting my 30 days on the 9th.  Anyone know?  I have a feeling that the Passion will come out after my 30 day time.

I'm with you, Colmfrb, I am not loving the Droid like I feel I should!  I am 99% sure it is going back and I got mine on the 7th.  The email syncing is not!  And I still can't like the UI either.  Will I like the Passion anymore, or is it just the same amount of hype?  I will say the browser on the Droid and the navigation is awesome, but I don't think it is enough to keep me.  The email thing is too big for me.  I thought the return was for 15 days, but I'm hearing it is 30 days, right?

I got the Droid as my 2 Year upgrade and apparently there is a 30 day period when you can return your new phone for any reason...with a $35 restocking fee.  I called customer support, spoke to the nicest support girl on the face of the earth who even offered to call me back to see if unseating my battery would help my problems.  She did say that my 30-day time still starts on the 9th regardless of when I pick up another phone to try. 

I have been trying all kinds of things to get the camera to focus.  It concerns me that some people are not having  problems and others are.  So...the software has some paramters in it that need to be bumped up or something?  But to me the hardware is lacking in my phone as well - maybe.

I hate change and it has taken me a week to get comfortable with my first smartphone.  I have gotten my phone to turn on without plugging it in now (hold the button in longer...).  The call reception is magically better for the past two days and I can't explain that and it worries me.  I am using the qwerty keyboard more though I don't love it.  The buttons near the lower corners often react to my fingers when I push widgets near them.  Not sure how to fix that.  I still wish for a better UI with visual indicators so I don't have to delve down into the different app screens to see if I have missed calls, etc. I can read docs, pdfs and see pics.  Don't know how to save anything yet although I did bring over my own ringtone and got it installed.

So...I don't hate it as much as I did 3 days ago but I am wanting to like it more.

the camera problem is for everyone and is supposed to be fixed on dec 11 when they release the updates.
